Robert Howard CAMPBELL
--
Obituary
--
Tuesday 8 July 2003 Inyo Register, p. A-2
--
A celebration of life will be held for 40-year Owens Valley resident Robert Howard Campbell, 74, on Saturday, July 12, at the Elks Park in Bishop at 11 a.m.
Born to Carl and Laura Campbell on Jan. 15, 1929 in Omaha, Neb., Mr. Campbell died on July 3, 2003 at his home, surrounded by his family.
After attending high school in Knoxville, Iowa, Bob served in the United States Army from 1948-1952. Later, he married his high school sweetheart, Beverly, and moved to Iowa City, where he graduated from the University of Iowa.
Bob enjoyed a long teaching career, starting in Bettendorf, Iowa. In 1960, he moved his family to California in the "Blue Whale," a school bus filled with all their possessions. After teaching a year in Hacienda Heights, the
family moved to the Owens Valley, where Bob worked at Big Pine High School, and later Bishop High School, as a teacher, coach, and advisor.
During his teaching career, Bob served as a city councilman and as mayor of Bishop. Later, he served as an Inyo County supervisor for two terms. Through his local television show, "Agenda," he was able to share with others his
love of this area and the people in it.
Bob was a fiercely patriotic, compassionate man who loved his family and freinds. He also loved children, animals, teaching, helping others and working with the people in the Owens Valley. He will be deeply missed by those who
knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harold.
Bob is survived by wife of 52 years, Beverly; sisters, Sheila Enemark and husband Don, and Louise McInville and husband Jim; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Lance Wagoner of Bishop; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Laurie
Campbell of Reno; and grandsons, Justin Lee of Chico, Brian Lee of Boise, Idaho, and Kirk, Kannon, and Kadin Campbell of Reno, Nev..
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elks Scholarship Fund for a Big Pine and/or Bishop High School student in Bob's name.
