A remembrance ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Brune & Buck Mortuary, 325 W. Elm St. in Bishop, for Ruth Aikman Ramsay. A graveside service at the East Line Street Cemetery will follow immediately afterward.
Born Ruth Henrietta Aikman in Ines, Kansas on April 30, 1912 as the fourth of five children born [to] Claude and Anna Aikman, Ruthie died Oct. 24, 2004 in Minden, Nev. She was 92. She had been in poor health and died of apparent
heart failure.
Ruth graduated first in her class from the Business College of Wichita in Kansas before re-locating to Long Beach, in 1932. Always an optimist, Ruth was consistently employed during the Great Depression, survived the Long Beach
Earthquake of 1933 and shortly after met the love of her life, Edmond Ramsay. They were married on Nov. 9, 1940 and remained deeply in love for the next 40 years. Ed and Ruth often vacationed with their daughters in the Owens Valley and surrounding
Sierra, eventually settling in Bishop in 1959.
Ruth spent several years in the early 1960s as the bookkeeper at the Bishop Union High School. She gladly stayed late with students making up detention hours in order to graduate. Her considerable administrative skills were
later used in support of the medical offices of Doctors Scott and Sheldon during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She returned to the high school to complete her professional career and retired in 1977 along with her husband, to Gardnerville, Nev.
She was a highly skilled seamstress, an accomplished pianist, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as president of the Business Professional Women's organization during her long affiliation with that group.
"Ruthie" will always be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her late husband and to her family. She found the good in everyone and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her trust and faith in Jesus Christ was
mirrored in her loyalty to friends and kindness to strangers. 'She was our hero,' family members said.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond, and her eldest daughter, Jacqueline.
Ruth is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Craig King; daughters, Lizabeth Ramsay and Robyn Ramsay Hooker; grandchildren Claudia King-Rick, Lisa Daggett Petersen, Robba' Lee King Sweeney, Tina Verna Peach, Carl
Edmond King, Jill King-Capps, Tonyia Verna Brewer, Vincent Gurzi, Michael Faley and Cori Ramsay Hooker; 10 great-children and three great-great-grandchildren.
Those wishing to remember Ruth are encouraged to make a donation to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc. P.O. Box 531313 Henderson, NV 89053 or log on to http://www.eyesight.org.
