Lady CHARLOTTE CAPEL, eldest daughter of WILLIAM, third Earl of Essex, by Lady JANE HYDE, his wife, eldest daughter and co-heir of HENRY, fourth Earl of Clarendon and Rochester, and was created in 1756, Baron Hyde, of Hindon, and in 1776, Earl of Clarendon. Villiers NOTE:..Viscount Purbeck, extinct 1687. Sir JOHN VILLIERS, third son of Sir GEORGE VILLIERS, Knt., of Brokesby, was created Baron Villiers, of Stoke, and Viscount Purbeck 1619, with remainder, in default of male issue, to his brother, Sir Goerge VILLIERS, and died 1645, without acknowledged issue. The viscounty expired on the death of the second Duke of Buckingham. Same six grand quarters and Crest as the Duke of Buckingham and Earl of Anglesey; Lord Purbeck's difference in the shield of Villiers, and on the Crest and Supporters, being a mullet Sable (black). SUPPORTERS:..Two lions Argent (silver), collared Azure (blue), on each collar three fleurs-de-lis Or (gold).

Sir GEORGE Villiers, fourth son of Sir GEORGE VILLIERS, Knt., of Brokesby, was installed K.G. on 16 July 1616, and created next month Baron Whaddon and Viscount Villiers, Earl of Buckingham in 1617, Marquess of Buckingham in 1618, and Duke of Buckingham in 1623. The second duke died without issue. ARMS:..Argent (silver), on a cross Gules (red), five escallops Or (gold), in the first quarter a marlet Sable (black), quartering, VILLERS, Sable (black), a fess between three cinquefoils Argent (silver), Pafeman, BELLERS, HOWBY, and KIRKBY; but on his Garter plate and banner at Windsor, his quarterings were thus arranged: VILLIERS, MANNERS, ROOS, ESPEC, VAUX, BEAUCHAMP, Earl of Warwick, Earl of Warwick (ancient), BERKELEY, LISLE, TIPTOFT, WAKE and VILLIERS. CHRISTOPHER VILLIERS, youngest son of Sir GEORGE VILLIERS, Knt., of Brokesby, was created, 1623, Baron Villiers, of Daventry, and Earl of Anglesey, his only son, the second earl, died without issue. Same six grand quarters, Crest and Motto as the Duke of Buckingham, the 1st quarter of the first coat of VILLIERS, and the lion's shoulder of the crest, charged with an annulet Sable (black), instead of a marlet. SUPPORTERS:..Two lions Or (gold) , the dexter collared Azure (blue), charged with three fleurs-de-lis of the first (i.e., gold), the sinister collared Gules (red), charged with three escallops gold.
Villiers NOTE:..Mason-VILLIERS, Earl of Grandison, extinct 1800. Lady ELIZABETH VILLIERS, only daughter and heir of JOHN, fifth Viscount Grandison and Earl of Grandison, was created, 1746, Viscountess Grandison, of Dromana, and in 1767, after her father's death, Countess of Grandison. She married ALAN JOHN MASON, Esq., M. P. co. Waterford, and had an only son, GEORGE MASON, who succeeded as Earl of Grandison. In 1771 he assumed, by royal license, the additional surname of VILLIERS, when the arms of the family were confirmed to him. He left an only daughter, Lady GERTRUDE AMELIA MASON VILLIERS, married Lord HENRY STUART, second son of JOHN, first Marquess of Bute. Vincent NOTE:..Trelevan in Mevagissey, Tresimple in St. Clements, and Batten in Northill, co. Cornwall. The VINCENTS, of co. Cornwall, were sued in the Earl Marshal's Court for bearing the paternal coat of VINCENT, of Stoke D'Abernon, and fined. They subsequently had license from the VINCENTS, of co. Surrey, to continue the use of the ensigns. Arms, Crest and Mottoes as the preceding.
