DEREK `DEL` NEWMAN

1962-2007

On Saturday 21st July 2007 Helston Paramedic Derek `Del` Newman tragically died whilst playing cricket at Porthleven.

Derek was originally born in Illogan but lived in Porthleven for the past 15 years until recently moving to Helston where he had been one of the towns paramedics since 1989.

A very talented cricket and football player, he traveled throughout the county enjoying his passion for sports.

He was also known for the many rescues as a former member of the Cornwall Air Ambulance team.

I was lucky enough to have know Derek personally and without doubt you could not have met a nicer person. Always happy he was one of life's `good guys`. Never a bad word spoken he was always there to help whenever anyone needed it and during his career in the Ambulance Service he saved countless lives.

My deepest condolences to his wife Sarah, who has been a friend since our school days in Helston, and daughter Lamorna.
