John Osborn diary The original of the diary is owned by Mr. WILLIE T. OSBORN, Rt 2, Mooresville, N.C. This Diary was among some books bought by HARRISON LEE from the sale of the estate of one of the OSBORNS. After the death of HARRISON LEE his executor gave the diary to Mr. WILLIE OSBORN. This is book #6. The other books have not been found. Copied from original by Miss CLARA LANEY, 607 Deese Street, Monroe, N.C. and Mrs. CATHERINE MORROW, 500 S. Hayne Street, Monroe, N.C. who have copies. A list of people mentioned and places visited are listed in back of this file. "This list was not in the copy used for this translation." Comments by various people and sources are included at the end of the diary text. This version was typed using a Macintosh computer by HAROLD E. POLK, 7006 Summerfield Dr., Frederick, MD 21702 in July 1994. The format of the document was changed slightly, each day starts a new paragraph, the typed copy used to make this computer version was continuous with no separation of dates which made it difficult to read. The persons name in this version are typed in all caps, bold and an index of names has been generated. The typed page numbers of the original translation are shown in brackets [ ], and the date and weather information is underlined. Capitalization of words is maintained in the same manner as the original typed translation by Laney and Morrow. This typed version was found in the Mecklenburg County Library in Charlotte, NC. There is a copy of this version of the diary in the Mecklenburg County Library in Charlotte and also in the Heritage Room in the Court House in Monroe, NC. There is a stamp on the copy used for this computer version that indicates the document was microfilmed by N.C. Department of Archives and History on June 21, 1988. The 1815 Mecklenburg
Co., NC. tax list shows a "JOHN OSBOURN" (Stiller) listed
in Capt. PETER RAPES Company along with WILLIAM, Sr., WILLIAM,
Jr., ALEXANDER, Capt. JOHN and JOHN BLACK OSBOURN. These persons
may be related to N "STILLER" OSBOURN. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The information contained on this web site is copyrighted, is the property of Harold Polk. and commercial use is prohibited.
