I went from Dadys to PETER RAPES from that to HUGH McCRORYS
to the store again from that I went to WM RODGERS from that I called
at WM PHILLIPS sot in the shade of the house & Chated a while
than went to WM McCAINS there I put up my horse & walked over
to Mr GEACYS schollhouse & staid till he give Leave than I
went back to Mr McCAINS & staid all Night was freindly Entertained

I went from WM McCAINS to WM GAULTS from that to HUGH
RODGERS from that home to uncles & in the afternoon him &
I went over to HANNERY CRENSHAWS & back to uncles & staid
all Night. ABOUT this time Rain is some what wanting but Not so Bad as
it has Been.

I Left uncles & went up to HUGH McCRORYS to MR LAWSONS
store there was Number of people Late I went from McCRORYS home
to my fathers. there was a Number of people fere this Night - tomorrow
the Mathodist holds there Sacrement within a mile of here & there
are farmers who came to in order for to be at the Secrement

I walked Over to brother WMS & back to Dadys uneasy & Disturbed
in mind upon many accouts one thing some of my fathers people are too
much Enamred with these sort of people called Mathodists & follows
there Preachings so much which thing I abhour. & other things which
Disturbs my peace of mind is I have a Desire for to Marry but I cant get
things for to go to my mind enough - for if I should I have No place for
to settle on without I get it from my father & I know not whether
I will get that or not - which makes me some times in a Notion vewing
some New Country. this Night there was 3 of those Ministers called Mathodist
Preachers at my fathers Some calls them Christians but I very much Doubt
of their Christianity.

I sot off from my fathers in order for to go to Camdon with Wheat old
Mr JNO FINEY was halling of a Load for me I went to brother WMS
from that went on my way I was Riding & did not go with the waggon
I called in at old Mr HUGH McCAINS & about 2 oclock I Entered
into South Carolina called at HUGH COFFEYS from that to ROBERT
CARS & had 7d worth of Rum from there to JNO SCOTTS from
that to JAS SCOTTS & it was Late & came on Rain & I
staid all Night

Early I Left JAS SCOTTS & went to his fathers JNO SCOTTS
from that I went on to the WIDOW STUBS from that on to JAS INGRAMS
& took Brackfast for 7d then Rode on to GEORGE MILLERS &
had 1/2 pint of Whisky for 7d & from there I went on to one TRANTHAMS
& he seemed avery kind man he invited me for to tarry for Dinner but
I was for going on & he walked out into his watter mellon Patch with
me & give me one of the Right wattermellons from there I went to one
PRESLEYS by this time I had got in Company with my Waggoner &
we went on to a place called the Gum Swamp within 8 miles of Camdon there
we pitcht our tent & staid till morning

Early I Left my Waggoner again in order for to Ride into Camdon I called
at a mans Door in Log Town & he Advised me for to go up to one Mr
BENJAMINS CARTERS a bout a me for to sell my Wheat so I went up to
his Mill & Mr CARTER & I converst a while & he Ast
me if I Would go up to his house & take a Dish of Coffy with him &
I thankt him & we went up & took Brackfast but I did not sell
my Wheat to him but went down into CAMDON & called in at Mr SMITHS
store the Mathodist Preacher from that to Mr RUDOLPHS below Camdon
& sold him 35-1/4 Bushels of Wheat for 44 Doll 6-1/2 Cents.
In the even I came up Through Camdon again was in several stores I Left
that & sot off for home I got in Company with Mr FINNEY My
Waggoner again & we went to Mr PRESLEY & came on about
a mile in this side there we struck up our Camp till morning

I Left Mr FINNEY again & Rode on to JAS INGRAMS there
I took Brackfast for 7d. However a bout 1/4 mile back I saw a Curiosity
that was a Pig setting by the way side selling of Wattermellons I went
on to WM INGRAMS & he appeard for to be avery kind man for
I knew not the man nor him me but we converst awhile & he Requested
me for to alight & Let my horse eat some Oats & I Excepted of
the offer & tarryed till my horse fed than I went on to JNO SCOTTS
& turnd in & Discourst Miss PEGGY his Daughter awhile &
it appeard for to be very ecceptable. from that I went to JAS
SCOTTS his sons there I staid all Night & was very freindly Entertained
it Seemed as if the Best in the house was not thought by them good Enough
for me the very Little Children seemed evamred with me

after takeing Brackfast with Mr SCOTT I Left that & Rode up
to Lancaster Court house & staid in Town till evening I was in HUGH
McMULLENS. & in WM WARES I took Dinner with Mr WARE
- However in the even when I Left Town I went to THANIEL COUSARDS
& from there to the McCRORYS & staid all Night (ANN
McCRORY)

I Left The McCRORYS & went to old Mr McCAINS from that
home to uncles. old Mr HUGH RODGERS & some of his sons was
there & I went home with them & staid all Night (JEAN RODGERS)

Early I went from HUGH RODGERS home to uncles & staid all day
& all Night

I Left uncles & went to JNO McCAINS & turnd in with Miss
BETCY & give her the straight talk from that I went to WM GAULTS
from that to WM McCAINS & walked over to Mr GREACYS
school house & staid till he Let his schollars out I went back to
Mr McCAINS & staid all Night (SALLY McCAIN) Ah the kindness
that was there can hardly be told

After takeing Brackfast with Mr McCAINS people I Left that &
went to LARD BURNS from that to my fathers & staid all Night.

I went to JAS BECKETS from that to HUGH McCRORYS to MR
LAWSONS store Bought a Decanter 62-1/4 Cents than back to BECKETS
& to Dadys again. & staid all night

However yeasterday was our Election day for Members of Assembly at WM
MILLERS -- I went over to brother WMS & back to Dadys &
turnd into Grubing & I soon Broke my Mattock than I went up to brother
ALEXRS & got it mended than back to my grubing again &
workt till Late & Broke my Mattock again. I went to JAS BECKETS
& staid all Night

Early I went to my fathers & went grubing & Threshing Wheat

I was at Plantation business till even than I went to JNO AIKENS

MUSTER day at MILLERS in the even ADAM SMITH & I Left

after takeing a grog & Breackfast at uncles Mr SMITH &
I sot off & Rode to JNO HUEYS Esqr & waited some time for
to see the Esqr he was from home & did not come (I Chated Miss
CARRY awhile) We went to HUGH McCAINS senir from that to JNO
McCAINS from that to WM McCAINS there we seen What they Call
a Ma Mozett & it is a comical Divel. from McCAINS we went to
ANDWR WALKERS Esqr thare we parted & I went home to uncles
& staid all night

I took my gun on my sholder & walked up to HUGH RODGERS from
that to WM McCAINS (I went over to Mr GREACYS school a few
minutes) I staid all night at Mr McCAINS (SALLY McCAINS)
Ah for all kindness there could be none greater than was to me by all
the family from old to young.

Early I sot off from Mr McCAINS & went home to uncles &
them & I sot off & went to ANDWR WALKERS Esqr it was his
Law day from there I went to HUGH McCRORYS from that to Dadys &
staid all Night

I went to JAS BECKETS to HUGH McCRORYS back to BECKETS
& to Dadys again - from that up to brother ALEXRS from there I sot
off in order for to go to ELIJAH SIBLEYS for to see Negrro girle
that he wanted for to sell me I went to SAMUEL DOSTERS from that
to SIBLEYS & staid all Night they people ?sed me vast kind
but I did not Buye his Negro

after takeing Brackfast with Mr SIBLEY I Left that & went home
to my fathers (& there I was informed that my sister MARTHA
was to be married to ROBERT HUEY on Thirsday first & O for
it greaved me for he is a Man upwards of 40 years of age & has had
2 wives so I give my advise against But Whither it will be taken or Not

I sot off from my fathers in order for to go to Montogomery County for
to see about collecting of some Money from JNO HAMLET I was there
the 21 of Last Month with my Execution against his property & the
18th of this Instant I receivd a Letter from my Constable there that I
could not get my Money fot the Lake of the County seal to my Execution.
so I have sot off now with an intent of haveing the County seal put on
it. I Rode about 17 miles to one Mr BUMBELOS there I stopt
for to feed my horse but it seemd such a poor Chanch for feeding I dide
not give him much but Rode on 4-1/2 miles farther to Mr BURNETS
& fed there from that I Rode 14 miles father to JNO CULPEPERS
a Baptist Preacher on Rockey River by this time it was in the night so
I staid till morning (this is in Anson County) I was Charged nothing I
had been somewhat Acquanted with the jentlemam before

I Left Mr CULPEPERS & Crost Rockey River a mile below him to
Mr CERTONTONS Esqr there I had 1/2 pint of Whisky for 12-1/2 Cents
from there I went on to My way called at Mr ONE EYED MANS I do not know
his name from that I went to Mr ROBERTSONS a bout 11 miles from
CRETONTONS there I met with Mr WM CULBETH my Constable &
him & I sot off for to go to Esqr RANDLES we wint to where
he now Lives 2 miles from there to JNO RANDLES Esqr 4 miles &
the Esqr was not at home he was 4 miles farder at his Mill on Peedee River
so we Rode there & when we got there he was gone home & we Misst
him & we followed him home & staid all Night & was freindly
Entertained & Charged nothing this is Montgomery County

Mr CULBETH & I Left Mr RANDLES & Rode to Where he
Lives & took Brackfast from there we went to Mr ROBERTSONS
2 miles there we took Dinner I Imployed WM CULBETH for to go with
me to the Clerk of Mclenburg for to get the County seal to my Execution
against JNO HAMLET I give him 2-1/2 Dollars & bears his axpenses
there & Back. So off we sot from Mr ROBERTSONS &
Rode 19 miles to Capt HILL WEATHERFORDS by this time it was in
the Night we called for Lodgeing & it was granted but Nothing for
our horse Nor ourselves when we come to go to Bed it was a Damd old Blanket
spread on the floor & we had a Divel of a poor Lodging
thir 27 cold morning
very Early we absented from our Lodging it was close to Rockey River we
Crost the River & Rode a mile to CHARLS POLK there we got our
horses fed & cost nothing from there we went 3-1/2 miles to SAMUEL
SMITHS & had our horse fed again & our Brackfast & cost
us nothing from that we went to The Halls from there to EZEKEL WALLOSES
a very Clever old jentlemans 11 miles from SMITHS it was about
noon we was than within 6 miles of the clark & Mr WALLAS informed
us that Last even the Clerk & his family had past there going to his
Mothers which was almost 10 miles back & that he did not allow for
to Return before saturday & we tarryed that even & night &
had as Much Whisky as we chused for to Drink & had but 1/2 Dollar
for to pay for us & our horses

we Left Mr WALLAS & Rode 10 miles to the WIDOW ALEXR
the Cleark ISAAC ALEXANDERS Mother when we got there he was 1/2
mile from there at his brother CHARLS ALEXANDERS we went there
& he could not do our Business till he would go home so Mr W CULBETH
was for to wait on him & I sot off for home - However we had our horses
fed & Brackfast & cost us Nothing I went 4 miles to SAMUEL
SMITHS took Dinner & had my horse fed free from that I Rode on
till I came to brother ALEXRS that was 16 miles I made but Little
tarry till I went Down to my fathers & staid all Night (Last thirsday
ROBERT HUEY was MARIED to My sister MARTHA which caused
me a great uneasiness in mind him being ods of 40 years of age & her
being but 17 years old the 4 day of Last jenuary or February so that it
appears to me a very Disagreeble thing However they Must make they best
the can of it now I heartely wish how well they may do.

I went up to brother ALEXRS for to help him for to raise a Barn
after I had been some time there a person came that had business with
me at my fathers I went Down with them & Returnd back to my brothers
& staid a while & back to my fathers from there I sot off to pay
my only one avisit I went to HUGH McCRORYS to MR LAWSONS
store & Traded a trifle with him & him & I Differd & I
was Damd angry for a Little - from there I went to WM McCAINS &
staid all Night (SALLY McCAIN) Ah for every Breast seemed for to
flow with Love Un speakable

I went from Mr McCAINS home to uncles him & I walked up to
JAS SHANNONS & back I staid at home all night

I went from uncles to JNO McCAINS - from that to WM McCAINS
& sot & Chated till Dinner was over that Mr McCAIN went
home with me to uncles & I staid all Night. ----Last thirsday there
was a contention arose betwn Miss SALLY McCAIN & Miss SUSY
GAULT & it was so sharp that Miss McCAIN took up a Little
stick & gave Miss GAULT a strok on the head.

with the Approching Affliction in my Left Leg.) staid all Night

I helpt my brother ALEXRS a spell in the morning for to PULL corn.
In the afternoon I sot off from my fathers in order for to pay a visit.
By the time I had Rode 2 miles it came on a shower of Rain I called in
at old Mr WOLFS & staid till it was over than I went on to
WM McCAINS the place I aimed for when I Left my fathers there I
staid all night (SALLY McCAIN) Love seemed to florish to a great
Degree)

I sot off from Dadys in order for to visit Mr JNO HAMLET in Montgomery
once more I Rode about 15 miles to SAMUEL SMITHS junier & the
people was very kind & insisted on me for to tarry with them till
morning & so I did I faird well - they took a Beehive & we had
honey plenty & all fair that was good and pleasant

after taken Brackfast with Mr SMITH I went for Montgomery about
10 oclock I crost Rockey River at POLKS ford & Rode on to one
TIRY ROBERTSONS from that to WM CULBETHS My constable (26
mile) I staid all Night
sat 12 moderate
Mr CULBETH & I went to JNO HAMLETS (about 2-1/2 miles)
& I caused Mr CULBETH for to Leavy the Execution on his Land
(as he confesed he had no other property) than we Returnd back to Mr
CULBETHS & took Brackfast & had my horse fed. Than I
sot off for home - called at Mr ROBERTSONS from that on & about the
seting of the sun crost Rockey River at Esqr CRETONTONS & staid
all Night at JNO CULPEPERS the Baptist Ministers this days Ride
was 18 miles

after Brackfast with Mr CULPEPERS I went on my way for home called
at WM POLKS & had my horse fed than I went on to my fathers
by this time it was geting Dark (this days Ride 35 miles) this trip has
not cost me one 6d the people was very kind. THIS IS THE THIRD VOIG I
have had at Montgomery after Mr HAMLET.

in the even I Rode to WM McCAINS & staid all night (SALLY
McCAIN) joy & gladness seemed to fill every Heart

one of my eye a Little -- indeed I had Drank rather too much sider &
Brandy so that I was not in a Capacity for the Business But I have Promised
it to them another time - If it pleases God for to spare me Life &
health. I went to WM McCAINS again & staid all night

sell some of his property for 5 Dollars that he owes me - as I started
I called at brother WMS from there to THOMPSONS & him
& I setled our matter without selling of his property - from there
I went to ROBERT HUEYS my brotherinlaws It is the first I have
Been there since he became a kinsman of Mine & he treted me very freindly
- from that I went home to my fathers & staid till morning

evening I went to JNO AIKENS & staid all Night

Early I went from JNO AIKENS to my fathers from there to JAS
BECKETS & from that to DANIEL WINCHESTERS shop for to get
some smith worke done But got none I went home to my fathers - (Last sunday
my mother was taken sick & this she Became Exceeding Bad so that Life
was hardly Expected for her I went over for brother WMS people
but by the time we got back she was got some better.

I was working in my Clearing till even Than I went to JAS BECKETS
from there to HUGH McCRORYS for to help him to husk corn when we
got Done I Returnd to BECKETS & on to Dadys

I went to DANIEL WINCHESTERS shop & got a Matock stelld &
Bought one from PETER PRESLEY give him 2 Doll & 25 Cents than
went home to my fathers. Late I went to JAS BECKETS PETER RAPES
& to RUDOLPH SHOFNERS to help them for to Husk Corn when we
got done I went to BECKETS again & staid till morning

I was pulling corn at BECKETS till noon than I went to my fathers
(I feel very solotary for some reasons) Being Discontented I walked up
to brother ALEXRS & back to my fathers & staid all Night

part of it which was a bout 20 Bushels the sorryest Crop Almost ever I
saw. about noon I went to Dadys - & was busied on the plantation &

noon & it came on rain so that we ware forsed for to Leave off than

I was at my brother ALEXRS a while in the morning helping him to
pull & hall corn than home to my fathers & grubed till Night

I took my gun in my hand & sot off for uncles called in at JAS
BECKETS from that on to uncles in the even I went from there to WM
McCAINS & staid all Night (SALLY McCAIN)

I went from WM McCAINS to uncles & him & I pickt his Mill
stones & in the even I went to Whare ELIJAY MAYS Lives for
to see if woul sell corn but he was not at home from there I went to HUGH
RODGERS & from that to uncles & staid all Night

in the evening I went from uncles to my fathers & staid all Night

I was grubing till Noon from that to Night helping my father for to Crib
corn (& I am some what afflicted in my Left Leg & some Dissatisfyed
in mind because things are not all to my mind)

go with him so I went & staid till morning

after takeing Brackfast with Mr HUEY My brotherinlaw I Left that
& went to AARON THOMPSONS (I am on the search for corn to purchas-)
from that I went to where ELIJAH MAYES now Lives & over to
MOSES McWHIRTERS horse Mill & back to MAYES & he
has corn for sale But holds it too high so that him & I could not
Bargin I offered him a Dollar for every 3 Bushels But he would have 1/2
Dollar & keep it to it was dry I Left him & went to uncles &
staid all night.

I was grubing till even than I broke my Mattock I went to JAS BECKETS
some Business I had there than home to Dadys than up to brother ALEXRS

at noon I was over at brother WM made but Little stay - This grubing
seems to go midlen Rugh with me for I have not been much used to it these
many years.

Raise a store & a Macheen house for MR LAWSON in the even I
came to BECKETS house again from that home & staid all night

I was gubing till even than I went to JAS BECKETS from that to
PETER RAPES for to husk corn we was hansomly treated & had
a smart frolic than I went home to my fathers & staid till morning

I was grubing till noon than I went to JNO AIKENS for to husk corn
in the night home again

I killed a Beef cow I had to go to JAS BECKETS & Drive her
up to Dadys I sold part of the Beef 40 wt to the Dollar. In the
even I was at brother WMS staid all night at my fathers

I walked up to brother ALEXRS & Back to Dadys - I am well that
is in good health But Dissatisfyed inmind & very few knowes it nor
I do not Expect that ever I shall revele my mind in some cases to many
---- However if after my Deceace any well wisher or freind should be Looking
over these Lines they might be Desires for to know what was the cause
of so much Discontentment: I shall give them here to know they princable
thing that first disstroyed my Contentment. It was in the year 1791
I beleave the 10th day of Aprile that I was taken with the White swelling
in my Left Leg & went near 2 years upon stilts before I sot it to
the ground from that I cant say that I have had 2 hours at a time of Rail
contentment there are other things that causes me trouble in mind - -
however no one knows that there is any thing that troubles me for by my
appearance one would think I was satisfyed
