I Left my fathers & went home to my uncles.

I went to JNO HUEYS Esqr for to see his Eldest Daughter (JENNEY HARIED) to  one JAS ADAMS some time after I got there 30 horse of us sot off for to meet the groom we Rodea bout 5 or 6 miles & the company made a halt & 4 of us sot off as spys & rode 4 or 5 miles farther & was not Like for to meet them we thought it was useless for us to Ride our horses any farther & we turnd into one Mr. COLLURS to take a grog but there watter was so Bad that very Little of it done us but we tarried there till we spyed the groom & his company comeing than we Mounted our horses & retreted back to the other company & before we got back to Mr HUEYS it was well on in the afternoon.  It was one Mr DONLY a covenenter Minister that MARIED them & he give them a full steve of it.  When Dinner was over WM McCAIN & his people & I sot off for home the insisted on me for to go home with them fut I told them I wanted for to go home But if helth permit me I should be with them on thirsday Next so we parted & I went home

In the afternoon I sot off & went up to my fathers When I got there they ware all preparing for to go to the Widow OSBOURNS for to hear a Methodist Minister Preach (the name of GAZEWAY) so off I went with them we went to JNO OSBOURNS from that to the Widows & there was a Number of people met together & about Dark he took his Taxt in John the 3 Chapt & 3 verse & he hammered away on it awhile & the people sot very mute - Presently he Quits his Taxt & begin for to sweet & storm at the most wonderful rate & the people that is them that belonged to the sociaty begin for to howl - I started up upon my feet that I might survey all their transactions And O ! good sirs if ever you heard the Like some a praying & some a crying grant it Lord.  It made me geging for to think O foolish people.  What do you mean for it seemed as if they ware going Distracted When the greatest fuss was over I went home a Long with JNO AIKENS people & staid till morning

I Left JNO AIKENS & went to Dadys from there I went to HUGH McCRORYS this day there was one MR LAWSON opening up of a store at Mr McCRORYS from there I went back to BECKETS & on to Dadys.  In the evening I walked up to brother ALEXRS & back to Dadys & staid all night

Aunt & I went to DAVID CRENSHAWS for to hear Mr GAZEWAY a Mathodist Mnister Preach the portion of Scripture that he spoke from you will find in Actes the 17 Chapt & 30 verse after him stood up one Fincher & good sirs but he made a Blundering out of it.  When all was over we returned home.

I was helping my father for to Plow amongst his corn at noon FREDERICK FISHER his Wife & his brother PAUL came there & the insisted on me for to Ride with them as far as HUGH McCRORYS & I went with them we called in at PETER RAPES from that to McCRORYS to MR. LAWSONS store - there we parted & I went back to Dadys to my plow

Early I went to brother ALEXRS made but Little Tarry but back to Dadys & sadled my horse & off I went in order for to get a Trade for my horse I went to DAVID ORRS from that to his son JOHNS but he was not at home from there I went to the WIDOW OSBOURN from that to JNO OSBOURNS & from that to Dadys & WM RODGERS came there & him & I went over to brother WMS from that we went to PETER RAPES & back to WMS again & staid till morning

WM RODGERS & I went from brother WMS over to Dadys & back to WMS from that to PETER RAPES again & I Bought a Rifle GUN from RAPE give him 25 Dollars for her. from that we went over to HUGH McCRORYS to MR LAWSONS store & got me some amunetion then we went on home to uncles & from that I went home with RODGERS to his fathers & we turnd out & killed squarrels & staid all Night

I went from HUGH RODGERS home. Diverted myself killing of squirrels

in the even I walked over to JAS SHANNONS for to see him about collecting some Money for me I went home again

I staid at home all day Corn is now very Little for the season of the year.  old Corn is selling here- abouts at 50 Cents per Bushel.  Butter Bears a good price home or abroad - in the settlement here it goes 6 lb for a Dollar flower 3 Dollars pr 100 wt Almost every thing sells high & Money is Scarce.

In the afternoon I went to WM McCAINS & staid all Night (SALLY McCAIN) Ah for it seemed as if Love flowed in every breast - But for all that there is some Reasons for Why we do not marry yet & there is no one knows it but ourslves.

I went from WM McCAINS to old Mr CHARLES FISHERS from that I went home with FREDERICK FISHER & his Wife from that home & about the seting of the sun it came on a mighty Storm of wind & Rain

I Left my fathers & called in a little at JAS BECKETS from that to JOSEPH McCOMMANS from there to Esqr SHARID GREY it was his Law day I obtained judgment against JNO McNEELY for 1 13s 9d.  Then I went home

Uncle & I went to WM McCRORYS it was a day appointed for giving in taxable Retuns. in the evening we went home

I went to the meeting house about a mile. & heard one McCOLLEY Preach the portion of Scripture that he spoke from you will find in Mathew the 6 Chaptí 10 verse- in the forenoon & in the afternoon you will find it in Luke the 11 Chapt & 30 verse.  When sermons was ended I went home - than I went with some Company up to HUGH RODGERS & staid all Night. I sold my brother WM a Barrel of Whisky & we took it & some fer myself & sot off for Dadys than called in a few minutes at JAS BECKETS than to Dadys than I went home with WM for to help him hom with his Barrel of Whisky than I Returnd back to my fathers & staid all Night

I was not very busy imployed but passing the time away with my gun killing squarrels I walked over to brother WMS & back in the evening up to brother ALEXRS & back again - (somewhat Discontented for the want of imployment) & my sister MARTHA has partly Lost the use of her right arm which vexes me --

I went to JAS BECKETS from that to PETER RAPES for to help him for to Raise a Barn after some time there came a young Lady after me for to go to my fathers for to Let her have some Whisky (Miss PEGGY ORR) so I went with her called in at JAS BECKETS & as I Returnd back to RAPES I called at BECKETS again in the evening we finished the Barn than I went home to my fathers & staid all Night

I sot off from Dadys & went to old Mr WOLFS from there to WM FISHERS there was for to be a frolic Reaping Wheat & Quilting 2 Bed Quilts but we had not much frolic I went with WM McCAIN & some of his family to LARD BURNS from there to JACOB STARNS & to DAVID STARNS from that to WMS there I staid all Night Ah th freindship that was there (SALLY McCAIN)

I went to brother ALEXRS & back to my fathers Than sot off in order for to got to my uncles _ in the even I walked up to JNO McELROYS he had hands Reaping of his Wheat I Returnd back home to uncles & staid all Night

I was Plowing amongst corn for my brother ALEXR & staid all Night at Dadys

I walked up to brother ALEXRS & back to fathers & in the even (as I was not very strong) I went to JAS BECKETS & over to PETER RAPES he had hands Reaping Wheat from that to Dadys again, & staid all Night

I went from my fathers to JNO OSBOURNS from that to ALEXR OSBOURNS from that to the WIDOW OSBOURNS in order for to Buy some Bags while I was there DAVID ORR came there & he Desired me for to go home with him & I went but it was with Reluctance but I want to keep in favour with all men - When I was there I sot & Chated a while but was unpatiant for to go home so off I sot again & back to the WIDOWS bought me 2 Bags 1-1/2 Each than to JNO OSBOURNS again & from that to my fathers & staid all Night (my mind is some what Discontented a bit thar that few knows it)

Early I went Down to my fathers & in the afternoon DAVID ORR & his Wife came there & I had a horse that I wanted for to trade off & they told me that there son JNO had a Mare that he would give me a Swop for my horse (But I believe it was a Damd lie it was only for to get me there because the could not get me there by no other stretigem - for I went with them to their sons & I could make nor get Nothing out of him more than if he was a Hog - & fool as I was by there great Desire they got me home with them & I hated it Like the Divel if I may use the expression - But if it pleases God to Continue my sences it will be some artful Scem that the will use if they get me there again (MARGRET ORR)

Early I Left DAVID ORRS & went home to my fathers (Biding Adue Adue Adue all the way as I Rode to that young Lady - But I did not tell her so But Left her in her Ignorance with an Expectation that I might visit her again But it is a thing which I Never intend - And I must here Acknowledge that I ought not to flatter Where I do not nor never did intend for to performe that which they expected that is marriage - But I must here a little excuse myself for the first beging of it was Self Interest some Money that Mr ORR was oweing of me & I had for to go 2 or 3 times after it before I got it and everytime as Mr McMULLEN terms give her some Cheek wind - & by that I believe I got my Money sooner than I would have done for the whole of the familey seemed so inamred with me. than again their son JNO had a Likely young Mare & I took a Notion that if I would flatter a little again I would get a good Swop out of JNO but now I had tryed all Stretigems & cannot make anything out of him & so I Bid them all Adue.  Now not to Quit my travels this day I went with my fathers people to the Mathodist meeting house fer to hear one Mr GAZEWAY Preach & there was a Number of people Collected there & he took his taxt in Isaihs prophisy the 53 Chapt & 1 verse the words are these and who hath believed our Report & to my judgment he did not handle it Completely but give it a tolarable Exertation When all was over we Returnd home

In the forenoon I was plowing for my father & in the after troding out Wheat (this is the third day my father has been grogy one after another It vexes me for to see an aged may Like him so much given to Srong Drink - moderate useing of Spirits I Recommend However I Never knew my father 3 days together in Liquor before therefore I must Sum what Excuse him hopeing that he will not do so no more.

I was Plowing for my father in the forenoon & in the afternoon tramping Wheat.

In the fore part of the day I was Plowing for my father at noon I went over to brother WMS and Borrowed 4 gallons of Whisky for JONATHAN LIGGETT - than back to my fathers & I took an anxous Notion for to pay a visit to a certain young Lady & I fixes up & about the time I was Ready for to sot off it came on a mighty Rain but did not Last Long & immedately When it was over off I sot & byt the time I had Rode about 2-1/2 miles it began for to Rain moderately again but before I had Rode more than 4 miles it came on a Dredful Rain & thundering & Lighting & continued a Long time & it frightened me much & about the time it began to Slack I got to WM FISHERS there I made a Little halt from that I went to FREDERICK FISHERS there I called in & took a Drop of Brandy from that to WM McCAINS there I took up Lodging -- And Ah the freindship of the people (SALLY McCAIN)

Ah for it seemed against our inclination for to part - However a bout 9 or 10 oclock I sot off from WM McCAINS & went home to my uncles & staid all Night

I walked from uncles up to HUGH RODGERS & 2 of his sone & I walked over to the WIDOW WILSONS & back to Mr RODGERS from that I went home to my uncles again & staid all night.

I was helping of my uncle for to Pick his Mill stones till noon than I sot off in order for to go to my fathers & by the way I met MR LAWSONS who keeps store at HUGH McCRORYS he was going to old Mr JNO CRYS & for Company sake I turns with him & goes to CRYS from that to WM CRAGES we was not in his house but the shop from that we Rode to SAMUEL ADAMS calld at the door & sot upon our horses & Drank 1/2 pint of Whisky from that we went to Old Mr CHARLES ADAMS & they were very kind & treated us to a glass of Whisky from that we went to JAS BECKETS from that we went to Dadys & staid till morning

I went with MR LAWSON to JAS BECKETS from that to HUGH McCRORYS ware he Lives this day he is allowing for to go for Charleston I Returned back to BECKETS & to my fathers again in the even I went to MICAL POLKS for to see Mrs McCAY who Lives there but I was not in POLKS but Returnd to brother ALEXRS from that to my fathers again & staid all night

I was Threshing Wheat & not being accostemed to much Labour of Late it does not much agree with me

but cloudy so that I could not thrash wheat so in the evening I took my gun in my hand & walked out to the woods for past time & for to see if I could see a Deer but found none I calld in at JAS BECKETS & from that home some What Discontented because I could not get things done as I would wish.

I walked over to brother WMS & back to Dadys this day I am out of Imployment & not Contented in mind as I sit writing of these Lines thinking on the one who I am Absant from.  my mind is Almost Continuly bent on that which I cannot Accomplish at present for several Reasons but perhaps I will worke through it preasantly.  That is if God spares me health & Life -

Early I went from JAS BECKETS to Dadys & a little before noon I went to JNO REDFORDS he had promised for to hall me 40 Bushels of Wheat to Camdon for 10 Dollars.  I went for to See if he was Ready for to start against Monday first but when I went he would Not hall it for Less than 16 Dollars the hearing of that alteration from our first agreement it made me feel warm.  before I would give him that the Divel might have him so I Mounted my horse & off I went home. & turnd into the Barn for to Tramp out Wheat allowing the Next day for to set out for to get some Body for to take my Wheat to Camdon - & Let those Liers who deceived me stay at home for to tell some more of their Damed Lys.

I sot off from my fathers & went to ANDRW WALKERS Esqr from that some Company of us went to WM RODGERS & Drank some Whisky & Returnd back to WALKERS again Late in the evening I went home to uncles & staid till morning

after Brackfast I sot off from uncles in order for to go to MONTGOMERY County after a certain jentleman of the name of JNO HAMLET who had Absented himself out of Providance settlement in debt to me about 26 Dollars.  I went to WM McCAINS & staid a while for there I went to JONATHAN BROOMS from that to JNO SIBLEYS Esqr there I staid all Night & was freindly Entertained

after takeing Brackfast with Esqr SIBLEY I went on my journey to Esqr DAVID CULBERTSONS there I had my horse fed & he charged me 6 d but he could not change My Money & I went on clear- called in at one PRESSEYS from that to WM POLKS & had my horse fed & he charged me Nothing I went from there to the WIDOW GREENS this days travel has been in Anson county & a short days travel it is the weather is so Exceeding warm - yeasterday I Rode about 16 miles & this day by the account of the Roade 22 miles However I staid all Night with Miss GREEN & My Entertainment was so - but it was as well as she had I had supper & in the morning some oats for my horse.  And her charge was 6d.

Early I Left the WIDOW GREENS & went on my journey I had not gone above 1/2 mile till I crost Rockey River & entered into Montgomery County the sd state of North Carolina I went to Esqr BROOKS & got some fodder for my horse & Brackfast for myself but was charged Nothing from that I Rode on to one HAMLET UNDERWOODS by this time ir was noon I had some fodder for my horse his charge was 6d but could Not change my Money & for that Reason he got Nothing (& it was the case with Miss GREEN this morning).  from there I Rode on to One ROBERTSONS by this time was Late I had some oats for my horse & he got a 6d there I met with one WM CULBETH a Constable I was than within 4 miles of Mr JNO HAMLET the object I aimed for When I Left home. the Constable hearing of my business seemed very much enamred with me & invited me home with & so I went it was about 2 miles from there by the Count of the Road I got this day makes but 18 or 20 miles me & my horse both fard tolerable well this Night,

Mr CULBETH & I sot off from his house & went to one Esqr HARRIES in order for to get my Execution backt because the Law Required it for to be signed by a justice in that County - but Mr HARRIES was not at home from there we went to one Esqr JNO RANDLES there we got Brackfast but was Charged Nothing. the Esqr was not at home he was about 3 miles off at his Mill on Peedee River & we went there & he singed my Execution against JNO HAMLET & from that we went to one Mr SHANKELS from that to another Mr SHANKELS from that to Mr JNO HAMLETS the jentleman was Not at home but his son & the Rest of his family was there Mr CULBETH began for to Execute Property & they forbid us of carring it away but we would do it.  HAMLETS son JAS a great Big fellow threatened us with his gun but we Stript their Shelft & took its furniture with us & went our way I staid all Night with Mr CULBETH again (this day we Rode 19 or 20 miles However Mr CULBETH & I was not Long at home to Mr HAMLET had some home & followed us in great Rath but made very Little by it. (this night I faird tolerable well

When I was about for to sot off for home - being 2 Nights there I called my Reckoning for to see what was to pay but the Land Lord made Charge - but I took out 1/2 Dollar & give him. this was Early & off I sot from Mr. WM CULBETHS & Rode about 11 Miles to one WM CREATON Esqr there I got my horse fed & my Brackfast & there was one Mr WM STOKES LEE YARBERY ISAAC HALL all Drinking Whisky & I was upon my return home so I turnd in & took a frolic with them I had a pint of Whisky & avery good Brackfast & good feed for my horse & my Bill was 1/2 Dollar -- about 2 or 3 oclock in the even I Left Mr CREATON Crost Rockey River into Anson County & Rode about 10 or 12 Twelve Miles there I came to a jentlemans & it was Late but the had No way for to keep my horse & I Rode on in the Night 3 or 4 miles & came to one Mr WM MULLES & there I stiad till morning & he was very poor they had but one Bed & it was a very so so one But the people was kind for the Lye upon a Cloth on the floor & give me the Bed & had nothing to pay (this day I rode a bout 27 miles)

very Early I Left Mr MULLESES & Rode to WM POLKS there I had my horse fed & my Brackfast & he made no charge but I give one of the Little Children a Quarter of Dollar from Mr POLKS I went to one WM CHANEYS I did not a Light but sot a horse back & Drank a quart of Sider that was 6d from there I went to old Mr HENERY HARGETS there I tarried a while & Drank a Quart of Sider 6d from that I went to brother ALEXRS from that home to my fathers However in this voige I think I saw as poor Land and as poor people as ever I seen in my Life Numbers of them had about an Acre of corn & a Little hut in the middle of it & there they staid.

by appointment RITCHARD GRIFFIN this day was for to sot off for Camdon with a Waggon Load of Wheat for me - I waited till noon & no sign of him coming & I sadled my horse & off I went for to see if he was coming but before I got there I got word that he was gone to Sharlott Court - I thought Dam all such Lying fellows & turnd my course & went to SOLLOMON SIMONS & from that back to my fathers.

Early I went to JNO FINEYS from that to JNO HAMMONS shop & got my horse shod from that to the WINCHESTERS that is I was not in his house but in his Barn for to see him Tramping of Wheat with an instrument made for that purpose Drawd by a horse. from that home to my fathers. in the even up to brother ALEXRS & back again. this day SAMUEL BECKET was married to JNO OSBOURNS Wifes Daughter SUSANAH.  This I think was as Quick a Match as ever was in this country I verily beleive that they had no notion of it a week agoe.

about noon I went up to brother ALEXRS made but Little stay (it is not worth mentioning every Little triffleing errand) However I went back to my fathers from there to JAS BECKETS & on to HUGH McCRORYS - Last Night MR LAWSON the Marchat who Lives there was come home from Charlston I Bought from Mr LAWS a UMBERELLY at 6 Dollard 62-1/2 Cents Also 3 muslen shalls at a one Dollar & 12-1/2 Cents a peace Like wise a small Check Handkerchief at 50 Cents more a pair of sleeve Buttens 6-1/2 Cents.  I went back to BECKETS from that home to my fathers.
