An Obituary Project has been undertaken to collect as many obituaries of Monroe County, Ohio residents and some of their descendants as possible. This project is a follow-on to the CD Project described in the block above in which newspapers and important Monroe County record books have been (and are continuing to be) photographed and made available on CDs. The primary method of collection of obituaries is to search the newspapers on CDs, retype the obituaries (including any article that contains obituary-type information), and post them to the website.

The Obituary Project is resulting in a large increase in the number of Monroe County obituaries available on this website. To accommodate this increase a slight change has been made in the procedure for accessing individual obituaries. In time, we hope to return to a single search mode. In the meantime, however, we are sure that you will agree that getting access to the many new obituaries far outweighs the slight inconvenience of having to use the two access modes.
