He leaves behind many precious memories that we will carry with us forever. Jake served our country in the United States Navy receiving an honorable discharge. Jake lived in Canton most of his life, retiring from Republic Steel in 1981 after 42 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and loved to cook especially stuffed peppers. We traveled together to many places when I was growing up. My dad loved sports, baseball and football especially. My dad loved to talk and tell stories from the good ole days, my dad traveled all over the US before marrying my mom. I will remember my dad as a strong willed, self made man, that always made me feel safe and secure. His rough exterior, sometimes harsh ways, were nothing compared to his soft gentle side that could put a smile on my face anything. My parents took care of numerous foster children throughout their lives and were the most loving, generous, caring and hard working people that I knew and our hearts will mourn their absence. I was blessed to be adopted, loved and nurtured by these wonderful souls. Jake lost his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary (Marna) Hackathorn, April 9, 1997 and missed her terribly. Also preceded in death by his brother, Chester and sister, Ruth.

Jake will be greatly missed by his daughter, Audrey, who adored him with all her heart and soul; son-in-law, Dave Burleson, who he resided with; grandchildren, that he did so many wonderful things for and loved unconditionally, Timothy and Andrea Beard; our beloved dogs, Marna Jean and Nakidah, all of Canton; brother, Roy (Butch) Hackathorn of Carrollton; sisters, Jerry and Joann; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; special family friend that dad called his other daughter, and talked to every morning, Rhonda Zombeck. The family wishes to thank, Andrea, Rhonda, Darlene, Dr. Drumm and all the wonderful people who helped make my dad more comfortable. Special thanks to very special cousin, Clarence Guest for all of the trips to the doctor and caring help and the VA, and Dr. Rafiques office and Aultman Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours will be held Wednesday (TONIGHT) from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
