Gale Cowan; Pub. 1983-02-11: Gale Cowan, 66, San Jose, California, died January 31, 1983. The Cowan family lived in and around Ree Heights for many years. He graduated from Ree Heights High School in 1933. He received his Third Degree in Masonry in Speirs Lodge No. 186, A.F. & A.M. in November 1942 in Ree Heights. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; two children, two grandchildren and one sister.
Donald Dell Mitchell; Pub 1983-05-12: Donald Dell Mitchell, 66, died May 2, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was born April 27, 1917, at Ree Heights, son of Thomas and Olga (Wotowey) Mitchell. He moved with his family to St. Lawrence, to Volga, back to Ree Heights and then to Miller. He graduated from Volga High School in 1935. He entered the Army in 1941 and served for two years. He theen worked for the railroad until 1951, and at various jobs, until he purchased the Sinclair Oil Station at Pierre. Graveside services and burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in Ree Heights, following a service at the Methodist Church in Pierre.
George Steptoe; Pub. 1983-01-28: George Steptoe, 93, Miller, died Thursday, January 20, 1983 at Hand County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 13, 1889, in Alden Township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George (Gertrude) Steptoe. He lived and farmed his entire life in that township. He married Ethel M. Shaw September 18, 1918, in Alden Township. He was a member of Speirs Lodge A.F. & A.M. Ree Heights, Greenleaf United Methodist Church, of which he was treasurer for 40 years. Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Miller, with burial in Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Martha Bell) Perkins, Miller, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and brother John of Mitchell and sisters, Viola and Myrtle.
Roland Henry Weidenbach; Pub. 1983-02-04: Roland Henry Weidenbach died Tuesday, January 25, 1983, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was born June 16, 1905 at Armour, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Weidenbach. The family homesteaded in Perkins County and after his father's death, they returned to Turner County. His teen years were spent working on farms and painting. He worked some time with the Diamond A Cattle Company, Eagle Butte, and spent several years with the sugar mill in Oakland, California. He married Edna Harvey, Ree Heights, on October 27, 1942, and during World War II they lived in California. In 1951 they moved to the farm 12 miles south of Ree Heights. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller, with Rev. Rosin officiating. Burial was in Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights.
