Metsel "Metz" C. Zerfoss, 76, of Rt. 1, Wessington, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1993, at the Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wessington Presbyteran Church wIth the Rev. Dona Behmer and the Rev. Ron McGilvra officiating. Burial Will be in the Wessington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday and all day Friday at the Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron
Metsel C. Zerfoss was born Oct. 18, 1916, at Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota, to Donley and Nellie (Eads) Zerfoss. He moved with his family to Hand County in 1929, and received his education in country schools near Vayland.

On Jan. 1, 1938, he married Viola Faye Dague at Huron. They moved to Estherville, Iowa, where they farmed for five years. They returned to the Wessington area where they had farmed since 1942. He worked for Knapp Implement in Wessington from 1958 to 1961, and then worked as a mechanic for Scherr Implement in Miller for 14 years, retiring in 1975.

He was a member of the Wolsey Presbyterian Church and had attended the Church of the Nazarene in Miller for more than 20 years. He was a former member of the Whiteside Township School Board and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Farmers Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Josephine; one son, Roger; and two brothers, Judson and Stewart.

He is survived by his wife, Viola Faye, of Wessington; three sons and daughters-in-law,
Jerold and Joyce Zerfoss of Wessington, David and Janelle Zerfoss of Wessington, and Neil and Judy Zerfoss, of Zell; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Janice) Arbogast of Miller, and Mrs. Michael (Lynette) Hopkins of Aurora, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lowell (Mary) Prentice of Wessington. and Joyce Wells of Tenino, Washington; one brother, Myron "Boots" Zerfoss of Granite Falls, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
