JAVA -- DeWayne "Hoss" Wangsness, 57, of Java and formerly of Miller, died Tuesday, November 29, 1994, in a car pedestrian accident near Shelby.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Java, with the Rev. Anna Peck officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Miller.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Larson Memorial Chapel of Shelby.
DeWayne E. Wangsness was born April 18, 1937, at Miller. He grew up on the family
ranch near Miller and attended school in Miller. Following high school, he attended South Dakota State University and then returned to the family ranch where he worked until 1987.
On February 10, 1985 he married Joann Tietjen at Reno, Nevada. In 1987 they moved to Akaska where they owned and operated the Sportsman's Bar for two years. He also
worked at the Twilight Bar in Glenham.
He served 11 years with the Army National Guard.
He was a member of the Mobridge Eagles Lodge #3606 and a life member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Miller.
He is survived by his wife of Java; one stepson, Jim Tietjen of River Bank, California; one step-daughter, Toni VanAsperen of Huron; four grandchildren; two brothers, Roger of Miller and Jerry of Rapid City; and one sister Rose Fawcett of Ree Heights.
