Mrs. Myrtle Shoop, 93, who resided at Prairie Center in Miller, died Wednesday, July 24,
1985 at Hand County Memorial Hospital.
Myrtle Chancellor Clegg was born October 11, 1891 in South Sioux City, Nebraska to
Henry and Mary Clegg. At the age of two years she moved with her parents to St.
Lawrence where she grew to womanhood.
On November 28, 1916 she was married to Ray Shoop. They resided in Havre, Montana and Portland, Oregon until after the end of World War I when they returned to St. Lawrence where they raised their family of five children.
In 1947 Myrtle and Ray moved to Wichita, Kansas and after Ray's death in 1950, Myrtle
continued to live there until January, 1984 when she entered Prairie Good Samaritan
While living in St. Lawrence Myrtle was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Community
Church. In Wichita she attended Wichita Bible Church. She also was a member of Gold
Star Mothers and Degree of Honor.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice (Mrs. Jerome Byron) of Skokie, Illinois, and Marion (Mrs. David Aufderhar), Bellevue, Washington; a sister, Mrs. Annie Fremark, Miller; a brother, Frank Clegg, St. Lawrence; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1950; three sons, James in 1944, Burdell in 1983 and Herbert in 1984, and her parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27 at St. Lawrence Community Church with Rev. Richard Ransom officiating. Burial was in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Byron, Wilbur Fremark, Kevin Clegg, Daniel Byron, Brice Clegg and David Fremark.
