Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on February 19, 1990, at the Emmanuel
Presbyterian in Marion, South Dakota, for Dale McKenzie. Interment was in the
The Rev. Terence Drew officated and the organist was Jean Smith. Music was provided by Harlan Smith, Eric Smith, Todd Smith and Barclay Smith.
Pallbearers were Donald Mulloy, Mark Mulloy, Marlin Mulloy, Bernie Hunhoff, John
Tschetter,and Aaron Schmidt.
Dale McKenzie, son of Kenneth and Kathern McKenzie was born on September 23, 1918 in Oacoma, SD. He passed away February 15, 1990.
He received his Associate Degree in Education from Wessington Springs Junior College and a Bachelors Degree from the University of South Dakota.
On December 31, 1941 he married Agnes Kerkhoff. [SLHS 1937 grad]
He taught rural schools in Buffalo and Lyman counties and in the towns of Reliance and
Marion. He coached high school basketball and football in Reliance, and elementary
basketball in Marion. He was County Superintendent of Schools in Turner county for
eleven years and Elementary Principal at Howard until health problems forced his
retirement in 1974.
He was a World War II veteran, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the
Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, American Legion, VFW and DAV.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, his twin, Darrell (July 1959),
He is survived by his wife Agnes (Sally); two sons: Jerry and wife, Carol, of Lakewood,
CO; Michael and wife, Janet, of Pierre; two daughters: Carolyn and husband, Ken
Norberg of Watertown; and Pamela of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren: Chad and Carrie McKenzie; Katie and Jillian McKenzie; Brent, Brian and Teresa Norberg: one brother, Kenneth, of Sacramento, CA; one sister, Laurette Mulloy, of Yankton; and many relatives and friends.
Dale McKenzie was the brother-in-law of local residents, Armista Wheelhouse and Lois Warren.
