Oscar Lichty, 90, Wessington, died May 16, 1995 at Hand County Memorial Hospital. His funeral Mass was celebrated May 19 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wessington, by the Rev. Donald Molumby. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Wessington.
Oscar Lichty was born March 1, 1905 at Hartington, Nebraska to Geroge M. and Agnes
(Walz) Lchty. He moved with his parents to South Dakota at the age of eleven. He
attended Bothwell School in Hulbert Township, Hand County. He farmed all of his life in
Hulbert Township, retiring in the mid 1970's.
He took care of his sister, Elizabeth Lichty, until her death in 1984. He enjoyed gardening and raising fruit and enjoyed sharing the produce with his family and friends.
Oscar remained on the farm until 1994 when he moved to Wessington and lived with his
sister, Leona Snyder. He entered Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller in 1995.
Oscar was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Wessington, the Catholic
Order of the Foresters, and the Wessington Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Frances Rowen, Elizabeth Lichty, and Josephine Lichty in infancy; four brothers, George, Fred, Leo and Louis; two
nephews, William and Edward Lichty, and one niece, Lucille Rowen.
Survivors include his sister, Leona Snyder, Wessington; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Paulsen, Miller; ten nieces and nephews, Dolores Brown, Kenneth Rowen, Edwin Rowen, Eugene Rowen, Rosina Yager, Raymond Lichty, Helen Mullenberg, Mary Anne Lakner, Paul Lichty and Agnes Koeck, and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pall bearers were Nathan Lichty, Lee Lichty, Robert Lichty, Mark Rowen, Paul Koeck,and Roger Mullenberg.
