Richard A. Lassen  1933-1992

Richard D. Lasson, 59, of Miller, died Thursday, July 9, 1992 at Hand County Memorial Hospital.

Memorial Services were 2:00 p.m. Momday, July 13, 1992  at Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Homme in Wagner with the Rev. Brook McBride, officiating. 

Services were also held on Tuesday, July 14, 1992 at 10:30 a.m. At Reck Funeral Home in Miller, South Dakota with the Rev. Dave Baker, officiating.  Music was furnished by Janice Palmer, organist and Maurice Hargens, soloist.  Honorary Pallbearers were William McCool, Dale Waters, Randy Christopherson, Pat Howard, Ben Weideman, and Lee Lammers.

Interment was at the Miller GAR Cemetery with Military Rites.

Richard Dean Lassen was born in Wagner on June  3, 1933 to Albert and Gladys Lassen.  He attended rural grade school and Wagner High School.  He entered the US Navy in 1951 and was discharged in January, 1960.

He married Janet Wollman of Wagner.  To this union were born five sons and one daughter who died when she was six months old.  He moved California and drove for Teamsters for 15 years.  He then purchased the Truck Arena Cafe at Chamberlain.  He was a culinary arts instructor for the State of South Dakota and managed several restaurants in the Sioux Falls area.

He married Carol Schmidt Nagel of Winner on August 18, 1989.  To this union joined three daughters and one son.  They moved to Miller in August, 1989.  He was employed by Lips Dining.  At the present time he was employed by Howard Farms.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 11, Wagner, a lifetime member of the VFW Post at Wagner, a Boy Scout leader in Troop #1 of Gilwell, England and a Troop of the World.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Miller;  his mother, Gladys Lassen of Wagner;  six sons, Jim, Jerry, Jeff, Jorge and Jason of Castro Valley, California, and Tom of Miller;  three daughters, Tonjua of Buffalo, Denise of Winner and Sheila of Spearfish;  four brothers, Robert Youngbluth of Mitchell, Loren Lassen of Hayward, California, Jack Lassen of Denver, Colorado, and Tom Lassen of Pittsburgh, Texas;  three sisters, Shirley Setterholm of Chester, Lois Sparks of Escaon, California and Judy Howe of Tea;  and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert, and one daughter, Jaqlene.
