Alexander Kulm, 75, of St. Lawrence died Sunday, May 26, 1991 at home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 29, at the St. Lawrence Community Church with Reverend Lee Smith officiating. Organist was Donna Melber and Anita Fremark and Lori Fremark sang a duet. Burial was in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Alexander Kulm was born at Akaska, SD on June 21, 1915 to Christian and Magdalena (Dietrich) Kulm. His mother died when he was three years old and his father died when he was ten. Alex was raised by his older brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kulm.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1932 and served for three years.
Alex married Mericlaire Brons on May 15, 1937, in Miller. He worked as a trucker until re-enlisting in the Army in 1943 where he served as an interpreter in the European Theater until his discharge in 1945. He and his wife farmed north of St. Lawrence until his retirement in 1982. They spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona for the past twelve years.
Alex attended the St. Lawrence Community Church. He was active in the Republican Party, serving as precinct chairman. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Alex coached 4-H and teener baseball for many years and served on the St. Lawrence School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Mericlaire of St. Lawrence; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Kulm of Sioux Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Kulm of Lake Havasu City, AZ, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kulm of Rapid City. He is also survived by two grandsons, Chad and David Kulm, and a granddaughter, Kris.
Pallbearers were Wilbur Fremark, David Fremark, Francis Marshall, Jack Fanning, George Melber and A.H. Waldrop.
