Marshall Lawrence Johnson, 90, of Rapid City died Thursday, April 22, 1993, at Rapid City Care Center.
Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller with Rev. Michael McCallum officiating. Interment was in GAR Cemetery, Miller.
Marshall Lawrence Johnson was born December 14, 1993, in St. Paul, Minnesota to August W. and Regina (Gilbertson) Johnson. He moved to Hand County, South Dakota, as a young child and lived most of his life in the Miller area.
He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Miller, the Masonic Temple and the Shriners' El Riad.
In 1941, he married Alta Fae Kintigh in Miller. For several years they made their home in South Dakota and California. In 1948, they settled permanently in Miller and opened their own business, the Deluxe Motel, a stopping place for many tourists and hunters. In addition to managing the motel, he was a painting and roofing contractor.
He was a kind and gentle man who enriched the Miller community with his friendly spirit and hard work.
The last years of his life were spent in Rapid City so that he could be close to his family.
He is survived by a son, Eric Johnson, of Rapid City; two daughters, Regina Mannix and husband, Mike, of Long Beach, California, and Janet Albers and husband, Randy, of Rapid City; four grandchildren, Lisa Anderson and Cory, Bill and Andrew Albers; one great-grandson, Austin Axel Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, two sisters and his wife, Alta, in 1987.
