Mrs. Ova Iola Hughes, 79, died Tuesday, July 10, 1990 in her home at Ree Heights.
Her funeral was Friday, July 13, at the Reck Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Baker officiating. Organist was Linda Allen and soloist, Wayne Black. Burial was in the GAR Cemetery, Miller.
Ova Iola Wald was born December 12, 1910, at Pond Creek, Oklahoma, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bias (Callie Hay) Wald.
She married William H. Hughes on July 28, 1927, at Medford, Oklahoma. In 1951, they
moved to Belle Plaine, Kansas, where Ova worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita and at
Eastview Manor Nursing Home in Belle Plaine. They retired in 1981 and made their home in Ree Heights, South Dakota.
Survivors include her husband, William; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Leona
Hughes of Ree Heights; a daughter, Connie Bourgeois of Waveland, MS; eight
grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Messenger of Pond Creek, OK and Mrs. Neva Sissick of San Antonia, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Clara Mae.
Pallbearers were John Hughes, Jim Keller, Kerri Bludnick, Ron Pechacek, Bill Hughes,
Percy Henderson and Kenny Fucich.
