Brenda K. Mehling-Wong, 34 of Valencia, Calif., formally of Wessington, passed away
on the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los
Angeles, Calif., after a long battle with cancer.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Hyatt Valencia in Valencia, Calif.,
and will be held in Wessington at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at St. Joseph's Catholic
Church. Lunch will be served following the service at the Wessington Auditorium.

Brenda was born on October 29, 1969 in Huron, S.D. to Roy and Janet (Phillips)
Mehling. She attended school at Wessington and graduated in 1988. Following high
school she attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, graduating in 1992.
She was employed at Special Teams in Brookings, for several years before transferring
to California to work for College Enterprises as their marketing manager. Her most
recent job was at HigherGround in Canoga Park, Calif.

January 26, 2004, she married Kieran Wong in a small ceremony at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center.

Brenda was a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Jaycees, where she met Kieran. She
was also a founder and board member of the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund, which helps
those battling cancer with the day-to-day needs often taken for granted. She enjoyed
hiking, rollerblading and traveling.

Survivors include her husband Kieran Wong of Valencia, Calif.; parents Roy and Janet
Mehling of Wessington; her brother Greg (Rhonda) Mehling; nieces Paige and Keely
Mehling; nephews Cole and Carter Mehling; all of Wessington; grandmother Evelyn
Phillips of Miller; grandfather Richard Mehling of Wessington; and many other special
family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Lloyd Phillips, and grandmother,
Lorraine Mehling.
