Estol C. Williams, 90, of Mesa, Ariz., died Wednesday, June 23, 2004.

A memorial service was held June 25 at the Velda Rose United Methodist Church in
Mesa, Arizona.

Estol, also known as E.C. and Bill, was born January 27, 1914 ,one of eight children
raised by Otis and Nellie Williams on their farm near St. Lawrence, South Dakota. He graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1932. He then attended college at Wessington Springs and later  Huron College, graduating in 1940. He became a teacher, coach and principal in schools located in Nebraska and South Dakota.

He married his sweetheart, Dorothy Harris of Miller May 22, 1938. Estol and Dorothy started their family with twins, Marcia and Martin, and after moving to Indiana to work at Allison Engines, Robert was born.

It was at Allison, a division of General Motors, that E.C. worked on engines for the fighter
planes of World War II and the development of the first jet engines in the U.S.

In 1974 they retired to Arizona, first living in Pinetop where Estol sold real estate. Later
they moved to Mesa to fully enjoy their remaining years together.

E.C.'s interests included leadership in Boy Scouts, hunting, fishing, billiards, golfing, and
he was an avid sports fan. He and his siblings started playing cards at a young age with
their parents, and he continued playing throughout his life, sometimes until the wee hours
of the morning.

He was devoted to his family and had many friends and family members in the Midwest
and on the West Coast.

He is survived by his children, Marcia Benzel, Martin Williams and Robert Williams; two
grandchildren; sisters, Olive Heinzerling and Vivian Lawless; brothers, Percy Williams
and Orval Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one sister, Daisy Lowther; and two
brothers, Everett Williams and Francis Williams.
