Lori Thiel, 67, of Miller, S.D., died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in
Aberdeen following an eleven-month battle with brain cancer.
A memorial service was held Thursday, June 10 at 10 a.m. at the First Church of the
Nazarene in Miller with the Rev. Mahlon Richardson officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest
Cemetery, Miller. Reck Funeral Home, Miller, was in charge of arrangements.
Lorraine Elizabeth Brooks was born October 20, 1936, in Neenah, Wis., to Alvin and
Ethel (Blohm) Brooks. At the age of five, she lost her mother and was raised by foster parents.
In 1956, she married Corliss Prindle in Neenah and moved to California and Washington states. While married to Corliss, she gave birth to Mark, Chris, Scott and Niki.
On October 22, 1965, she married Herman Griffin in Seattle, Wash. They had one son,
On December 18, 1988, she married Lawrence Thiel in Everett, Wash., where she
worked as a Boeing secretary until retirement. After retirement, she and Larry moved to
Miller, South Dakota, and enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting and blessed shared memories with family and friends.
Her love for those in Miller could only be described in a manner in which everyone was
always welcome. Her pleasure was derived from serving others, usually with home
cooking, drink and conversation. Lori's determination and will to survive during times of
strife was present throughout her life. When faced with surgery last year, she accepted
Christ as her Savior. Lori left behind many relatives and special friends in South Dakota
and Washington and will be truly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Thiel of Miller; her dog, Angel; three sons,
Mark Prindle of Wasilla, Alaska, Scott Prindle of Puyallup, Wash., and Jason Griffin of
Canby, Ore.; two daughters, Chris Muthig of Appleton, Wis., and Niki Haskell of
Lynnwood, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Kesha, Sean, Claire, Shad, Jaime, Michele, Julie,
Nathan, McKenzie, Hunter, Dylan and Reagan; five great-grandchildren, Aspen,
Jasmine, Mercedes, Anthony and Alexander; six sisters, Betty Pangburn, Ruth Pickett,
Adeline Lund, Shirley Reddick, Caroline Petersen, Karen Thorne; and two brothers,
Alfred Brooks and Russell Schuelke.
