Charles Albert Stoudt, Jr., 88, Newberg, Ore., died April 27, 2004.
A committal service was held Tuesday, June 8 at the Rose Hill Cemetery near
Wessington, under the direction of Reck Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Jones officiated.
He was born March 27, 1916, to Charles Albert Stoudt, Sr., and Esther Todd Stoudt in
Hand County, S.D. He attended a local grade school one mile from home and graduated
from Miller High School. After graduation he farmed with his father in Hand County.
He married Raoma Rickits of February 22, 1947, and they lived on his farm before
moving to Miller in 1948, where he was employed at a local automotive company. In
1952 they moved to McMinnville, Ore., where he worked at Sheridan Lumber Mill.
Later he married Edna Pauline Cummings and children, Derryl Lynn and Cheryl Ann.
They remained in McMinnville until 1967, when they moved to Lincoln City, Ore., where
he managed the One Hour Martinizer. He worked for a brief time at the Brock Candle
Factory in Scappose, Ore., and then traveled the following 10 years as a mill wright in
In March of 1978 he married Alice Gary and they moved to Newberg, Ore. Upon
retirement he served as the assistant manager at Mountain View Court. After her death
he moved to Aster House, both located in Newberg, Ore.
He was a member of the Sherwood Friends Community Church, and a longtime member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed wood working, making toys for his grandchildren, and
fishing, along with coffee and conversation at the local restaurant.
Survivors include one sister, Thelma (Glen) Garrison of Fort Worth, Texas; one
sister-in-law, Lora Stoudt of Vancouver, Wash.; three stepchildren, Derryl (Brenda)
Cummings of Portland, Ore., Cheryl (Ronald) Vanaken of Forest Grove, Ore., and Pat
(Al) Haugen of Kennewick, Wash.; a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.
