Corliss Schlechter, 75, of Polo, S.D., died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Hand County
Memorial Hospital in Miller.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 8 at 10 a.m. at St. Liborius Catholic church in
Polo with Fr. John Helmueller officiating. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Polo.

Casketbearers were Rod, Ryan, Terry, Chad and Mike Schlechter and Larry Anglin.
Reck Funeral Home, Miller, was in charge of arrangements.

Corliss Schlechter was born August 4, 1928, in Miller to Herman and Frances (Deuter)
Schlechter. He attended school and completed the tenth grade in Polo. On November
26, 1955, he married Betty Wernsmann in Polo. They had seven children.

After several years of working road construction, he settled back on the family farm west
of Polo, engaging in dairy farming until his retirement in 2000.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Schlechter of Miller; six sons, Chuck
Schlechter of Huron, Dan (Lisa) Schlechter of Centuria, Wis., Tim Schlechter of Mitchell,
Dean (Theresa) Schlechter of Miller, Corey (Brandi) Schlechter of Sioux Falls, Kevin
(Sandy) Schlechter of Webster; a daughter, Lorie (Brian) Dinger of McVille, N.D.; 18
grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, Abby, Evan, Alex, Jace, Taylor, Callie, Tyler, Trevor,
Rodney, Ryan, Rachel, Robin, Nicole, Casey, Amanda and Brianna; and his dog, Jake.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
