Edmund T. Rychtarik died on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 84 years.

Visitation: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Saturday, October 23, 2004 at Rudeís Funeral Home, Brookings, SD and prior to services at St. Annís Catholic Church in Miller, SD.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 26, 2004 St. Annís Catholic Church, Miller, SD

Interment: 3:00 PM, Tuesday, October 26, 2004 Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Pierre, SD

Edmund T. Rychtarik was born December 2, 1919, to John and Christy (Puffer) Rychtarik on a farm near Bailey, S.D., in southwest Hand County in Como Township.
He attended grade school in Como Township and graduated from Miller High School with the class of 1938. After graduation he took a job with Farmer's Union Grocery Store in Ree Heights, and later became manager.

On October 16, 1941 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until December 1, 1945. He married Della Terwilliger on June 15, 1942 in Paris, Tenn., where he was stationed.

Upon his return from the service he purchased the Farmer's Union Grocery Store in Ree Heights. After selling the store he worked for Ree Heights Implement until moving to Pierre in 1958, where he was an auto parts salesman in Pierre and the surrounding area until retiring in 1983.

He moved to Miller in 1999 and then moved to Brookings in 2002, where he became a resident of the United Retirement Center.

Edmund was a member of the Catholic faith, the Knights of Columbus in Pierre, the American Legion and was a past treasurer of Dakota Racers. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, helping other people.  He especially enjoyed being a handyman.

He is survived by three children, Patricia (Don) Parlin of Lakewood, Colo., John (Joan) Rychtarik of Brookings and Robert (Paula) Rychtarik of Buffalo, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jackie Wicker and her husband John, Ken Parlin, Brad Parlin, Jana Rychtarik and Jarid Rychtarik; and three great grandchildren, Nicole, Michael and Jade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Norman Sivertsen, wife Della and grandson Jordon Rychtarik.
