Clair Luverne Ravenscroft was born October 27, 1921 in Midland, S.D., to Carl and
Wilma (Huston) Ravenscroft. He moved to Vayland, S.D., at an early age.

After graduating from Wessington High School in 1939, he served in the U.S. Army Air
Corps as an aircraft mechanic in the 92nd Bomb Group (H) from October 1942 until
October 1945, during the WWII air offensive over central Europe.

He returned to civilian life, traveling with friends to California, Oregon and Washington,
paying their way by picking apples and working various other jobs until 1949 when he
met Lois Faye Bute. They were married on October 28, 1951.

He was a carpenter by trade, and worked for Hiram Lilly for a few years before starting
his own business with John Stobbs. Together they built and maintained many homes in
and around the Hand County area, becoming quite well known in the community.

In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, taking his sons and nephews out nearly
every weekend and sharing many trips with John McInnis, where he honed his ever
present sense of humor.

Survivors include three sons, Joe Ravenscroft of Seattle, Wash., Scott (Roberta)
Ravenscroft of North Pole, Alaska, and Todd (Wendy) Ravenscroft of Huron; three
grandchildren, Carl, Sara and Ryan Ravenscroft; a sister, Bobbie Wurnig of Rapid City;
and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois in 1999; a granddaughter, Amanda Ravenscroft; a sister, Beverly Murphy; and a daughter-in-law, Carla Ravenscroft.
