Paul W. Pawlowski, 92, of Wessington Springs, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at
Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.
Funeral services were held March 27 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington
Springs, with Rev. Michael Bagnall officiating. Burial was at the Prospect Hill Cemetery
in Wessington Springs.
Paul William Pawlowski was born September 24, 1911, on a farm in Jerauld County to
William and Matilda (Feistner) Pawlowski.
He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Lane. He married
Edna Anna Dethlefs September 28, 1932, at Zion Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
At Lane, they farmed in Blaine Township for 54 years before moving to Wessington
Springs in 1986. They lived in the Weskota Apartments for about two years before
moving to the Weskota Manor Nursing Home.
He was an avid player and promoter of baseball and slow pitch. On September 28,
2002, on their 70th wedding anniversary, Paul was inducted into the South Dakota
Baseball Hall of Fame at Huron.
He was a member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Woonsocket, and Zion Lutheran
Church, Wessington Springs.
He is survived by his wife Anna of Wessington Springs; three sons and one daughter,
Ken (Betty) of Great Falls, Mont., Lyle (Lenora) of Gann Valley, Valette "Va" (Joe) Fee of
Sioux Falls, and Glen (Cindi) of Battle Creek, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and 26
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, three
sisters and three infant siblings.
