Loren Mitchell Palmer, 84, formerly of Wessington, South Dakota died Friday, April 16, 2004, in Medford, Oregon.
Funeral services were held April 22 at the Presbyterian Church in Wessington, with the
Rev. Allen Sager officiating. Burial of his cremains was in the Wessington Cemetery.
Loren was born in Chula, Mo., February 15, 1920, to O.G. and Hinga Sybil Palmer. He
was raised in Hand County and graduated from St. Lawrence High School in 1938.
He served in the Navy from 1939 until December 1945. He was decorated for service in
the Pacific Theater in World War II.
He married Wilma April 1, 1945. After his discharge from the Navy, they farmed near
Wessington before moving to California in 1957.
He worked as a nurseryman until he was 67.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He is survived by three children, Sybil Ann, Douglas Mitchell and Debra Louise; seven
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Nova, John, Gerald,
Kenneth and Fern.
He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Rita Maxine; his parents; and
brothers and sisters, Omer, Vernon, Ruby and Freda.
