Ruby (Mrs. Ronald) Oldfield, age 62, of Watertown, passed away at a local hospital Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, following a five-year battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Eric Grinager officiating. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown.
Ruby Oldfield, the daughter of Rueben and Della (Melvin) Gimbel was born June 26, 1942, at Ree Heights, S.D. She attended country school and graduated from Miller High School.
Ruby met Ron Oldfield at the Greenleaf United Methodist Church located northwest of Miller. They were married June 24, 1962 at Miller. They lived in the communities of Ree Heights, Rapid City, Pine Ridge and Huron, as his work in road construction changed locations.
The couple moved to Watertown in 1968. She was employed at McDonald's in Watertown, and drove school bus for the Watertown School District for several years. Ruby and Ron owned and operated Watertown Recycling for five years, and she was employed at The Outfitter.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Codington County Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing and crafts, gardening and canning.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Oldfield of Watertown; three daughters, Rhonda Hartwig, Regena (Duey) Zielske, and Rachelle (James) Bruns, all of Watertown; three sisters, Vesta (Jay) Christensen of Mitchell, Patricia (Brent) Phinney of Sioux Falls, and Stella (Dennis) Brown of Burkburnette, TX; her mother, Della Gimbel of Ree Heights; three brothers, Emanuel Gimbel of Rapid City, Melvin (Jan) Gimbel and Delton (Shirley) Gimbel of Ree Heights; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Rueben Jr.; one sister, Paulina Selken.
