Clayton Morris, 94, of Redfield, died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Beverly Healthcare
Center in Redfield.
His funeral will be held Thursday, July 1, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Redfield,
with the Rev. Steve Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in the Rockham Cemetery at
approximately 4:15 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Thelen Funeral
Home in Redfield.
Clayton Henry Morris was born September 1, 1909 on a farm west of Rockham to Scott
and Alma (Levtzow) Morris. He attended rural grade school in the area and graduated
from Rockham High School in 1929. He obtained a teaching certificate from Northern
Normal in Aberdeen, and taught rural schools in Hand and Faulk counties for six years.
Clayton married Rosella Comstock on July 20, 1934 in the Carleton Methodist Church.
They began farming on a rented farm four miles south of Orient. In 1942, they purchased
a farm in Carleton Township, where they lived until 1979 when they retired and moved to
He served on the Carleton Methodist Community Church board and as a Sunday school
teacher. He was also the janitor there for many years. He was on the Carleton Township
Board and the school board. He was a 4-H leader for several years and also worked
part-time for the Hand County ASCS measuring fields and grain bins.
Clayton is survived by two daughters, Joyce (Daelyn) Sanger of Rockham, and Doris
(Robert) Slunecka of Miller; his brother Walter Morris of Walhalla, N.D. He is also
survived by seven grandchildren, Dennis (Arlene) Sanger, Mike (Cindy) Sanger,
Mardelle (Dr. Randy) Hoch, Jenelle (Jaimey) Schempp, Christine (Angel) Garcia, Kay
Lynn Burnham and Brenda (Bill) Becker; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great
