Onalee (Ona) Moorman, 79, of Wessington Springs, died Thursday morning, July 22,
2004, at the Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center in Wessington Springs.

Her funeral was held July 26 at the Free Methodist Church in Wessington Springs, with
the Rev. Don Grubb officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Wessington

Onalee Houska was born on June 1, 1925 on a farm near Ola, S.D., to Lee and Eunice
(LaVoy) Houska.  She attended school in Kimball and Pukwana, graduating from
Pukwana High School in 1943.

Onalee worked at Northwest Security National Bank in Chamberlain and the telephone
office in Pukwana directly after graduation.  She went on to attend Nettleton Commerical
College in Sioux Falls and worked at Fantles Tearoom as a bus boy and at Northwest
Security National Bank as a messenger.  After graduation from Nettleton College she
was employed as a secretary at various businesses in Sioux Falls.

Onalee married Ryland Moorman at Pukwana, Sept. 8, 1948 and moved to Brookings
so he could finish college.  They moved to the ranch in Burr Oak Township in Beadle
County in 1950, where they ranched until 1973.  They then moved into Wessington

Onalee worked as a licensed abstractor for 20 years and eventually bought the abstract
company and managed it until it was sold in 1991.  She was a member of the American
Legion Auxiliary, Circle 1 of the United Church of Christ, South Dakota Land Title
Association, Wessington Springs Golf Club, and the Central Dakota Marine Corps
Auxiliary.  Her hobbies included reading, gardening, sewing, painting, golfing and family
pets. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her husband, children and

She is survived by her husband, Ryland, of Wessington Springs; a son Michael (Kathy) of Lincoln, Neb.; two daughters, Marcia Moorman of Aberdeen and Susan Jost of
Wessington Springs and her friend, Joel Kelsey of Wessington; five grandchildren; one
sister, Marsha Armfield of Aberdeen; one brother, Charles Houska of Oacoma; and
many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert and Thomas; one sister,
Phyllis McCarthy; one brother-in-law, Frank McCarthy; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Houska;
and a son-in-law, David Jost.
