Clara Mitchell, age 81, formerly of Wessington, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the
Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.
Her funeral Mass was held Saturday, June 19, at the Church of the Resurrection, Huron,
with Father Jim Zimmer officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at
Casket Bearers were Donovan Bohr, Lucas Bohr, Shannon Waterman, Tony Waterman,
Dennis Bohr, Eric Noyes, Ale Labra Noyes, and Jim Major.
Clara M. Feterl was born August 11, 1922, to John and Elizabeth (Weber) Feterl, Sr., at
Wessington, South Dakota. She spent her elementary school years at Whiteside Country School near Wessington, and one year at St. Mary's School at Salem, SD.
On June 18, 1944, Clara married Donald Mitchell at Wessington. She lived at
Wessington for 55 years and during that period of time she worked at the Vayland Store
for six years. In 1977, she moved to Plankinton where she worked as the housekeeper
for Father Donald Molumby. In 1978, she moved to Vermillion where she was the House
Mother for the Alpha Phee Sorority House, and in 1980, she moved to Huron where she
worked for the Huron Regional Medical Center in food preparation for 14 years prior to
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Catholic Daughters of America, and
the Huron Area Senior Center. In addition to enjoying the time that she spent with her
family, her other interests included writing letters and sending birthday cards to her family and friends, and sending get-well cards to those who were sick.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bohr of Sioux Falls, and Donna (Eben "Buzz")
Noyes of Wessington; four grandchildren, Eric (Ale) Noyes, Shannon (Tony) Waterman,
Donovan Bohr, and Lucas Bohr; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard (Audrey)
Feterl of Rapid City, and John (Judy) Feterl, Jr. of Charleston, Illinois; three sisters, Marie Weber of Bridgewater, Louise Anderson of Salem, and Jean Feterl of Howell, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Florence Feterl of Deadwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald on March 31, 1964;
one brother, Leonard Feterl; and two brothers-in-law, Ivo Weber, and Randall Anderson.
