Lois M. Mins, Clarkston, Wash., died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, one week after
celebrating her 94th birthday.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at the St. Lawrence
Community Church, St. Lawrence, S.D. Cremains will be interred in the St. Lawrence

Lois Marian Boyd was born March 23, 1910, at Wolsey to James Lyon and Lydia Irene
(Lewis) Boyd.

She grew up in Wolsey. When she was nine months old, she and her brother were
caught in a house fire. She received burns on her face and hands. Her brother Kenneth,
who was two, also survived and was a hero to Lois.

She received a teaching certificate and taught for about 10 years at schools in Tulare,
Wessington Springs, Ree Heights and Okaton, S.D.

When she was 24, her mother died and Lois helped her father raise her younger sister
Gladys, who was 14, and her brother James, who was 10.

On Christmas day, 1942, she married Baker Edward Mins at Wessington Springs.
In 1960, her husband was incapacitated by a road maintainer/train accident and she was solely responsible for raising her five children. She worked as a cook at the St.
Lawrence School and for many years as the head cook at Hand County Memorial
Hospital in Miller. Her husband died September 4, 1974.

In 1978 Lois moved with her daughter, Linda, from St. Lawrence to Clarkston, Wash. She lived independently until November of 2003, when she moved to Clarkston Shelter Care, where she was a resident until her hospitalization on Friday, March 26, 2004.

Survivors include her daughters, Lorna (Spencer) Campbell of Clarkston, Wash., and
Linda (Roy) Arnzen of Cottonwood, Idaho; sons, Boyd (Evangeline) Mins of Fulton, S.D.,
Don (Linda) of Lexington, Neb., and Ron (Sharon) Mins of Miller. Grandchildren, Lesa
Campbell Milborn, Kamme Campbell Prior, Jason (Becky) Campbell, Kopper Campbell
(Paul) Blunt; Brady, Travis, Lynnette and Chad Arnzen; Teresa Mins (Victor) Deuter, Lori
Mins (Larry) Enright, Jay (Elizabeth) Mins, Garth Mins, Shane (Becky) Mins, and Shawn
Mins (Jason) Cleberg, and 24 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Gladys
Moldrem of Wessington Springs; a brother James (Olna) Boyd of Longmont, Colo.;
sister-in-law, Edith Boyd of Wessington Springs; sister-in-law, Margaret Mins of
Minneapolis, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Baker; her parents; brothers, Kenneth,
Vergil and Elmer; and a significant loss, her grandson-in-law, Brian Prior of Clarkston,
