Maurice E. "Dude" Jones, 92, of Spokane, Washington, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, of complications with pneumonia.

A memorial service to celebrate his life was held March 4 at Hazen Jaeger Funeral
Home in Spokane. His cremains were laid to rest at the Pines Cemetery in Spokane
Valley, Washington.

Dude was born in 1911 to Eldon and Blanche Jones in Miller, S.D. He grew up and
farmed in the Miller/St. Lawrence area until 1954, when he moved his family to Rapid
City, where he operated a full-service filling station. He later worked as an auto mechanic for Jim's One-Stop in Rapid City.

In 1964 he moved to Spokane, Wash., and worked for his older brother, Leslie Jones,
who owned a fuel and furnace business. Dude later worked as an auto mechanic in
several Spokane auto repair centers and filling stations.

He married Arlene Bradford in 1968. Approximately 1969, he retired and they began
traveling extensively throughout the southern U.S. and later wintered in Yuma, Arizonia.

Beginning in 1997, Dude suffered several bad falls and later suffered from Alzheimer's
disease. He was a resident of several Spokane-area nursing homes, and last resided at
North Central Care Center until his death.

Dude is survived by his wife, Arlene Jones, of Spokane; four daughters, Marlys Amerson
of Lincolnton, North Carolina., Margene Mitchell of Raleigh, North Carolina, Sheryl Schweigerdt and Sheris  Red Feather, both of Rapid City; two step-sons, Larry Bradford of Alta Loma, California, and Leonard Bradford of Spokane, Wash; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Melvina Preator of Bremerton, Washington; one niece, Sandra Edwards of Bremerton, Washington; and one nephew, Darrell Jones of Spokane, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leslie Jones and Clement
"Sak" Jones.
