Steve Jarabek, 78, of Miller, S.D., died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at Hand County Memorial
Hospital in Miller.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist
Church in Miller with the Rev. David Andrews officiating. Burial was Tuesday at 3 p.m. at
the Butler Prairie Home Cemetery at Letcher.
Casketbearers were Mike Namanny, Tom Lichty, Kenny Jacobson, Roy Miller, Jerry
Jarabek, Ryan Hughes, David Dracy and Manuel Gonzalez. Reck Funeral Home, Miller,
was in charge of arrangements.
Steve Urban Jarabek, Jr. was born April 1, 1925 at Letcher, S.D., to Steve Sr. and Edna
(Serdahely) Jarabek. He graduated from Letcher High School in 1943.
On November 27, 1954, he married Bertha Davidson. After their marriage, they made
their home in Letcher. He was employed for 10 years by W.E. Bartholow & Sons
Construction. In 1962, he moved from Letcher to Huron, then to Wolsey in 1965. He
worked 12 years at Petroleum Carriers in Wolsey and 10 years at Huron Dressed Beef,
retiring in 1988. In 1995, he moved to the Campus Apartments above the Senior Center
in Huron. Then in March of 2001, he moved to Courtyard Villa Assisted Living Center in
Miller where he lived until the time of his death.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Delton) Gimbel of Ree Heights; two sons, Cal
(Vicki) Jarabek of Fargo, N.D., and Mel (Jackie) Jarabek of Peoria, Ariz.; six
grandchildren, Kristina (Manuel) Gonzalez of Montrose, Kathy and Mandy Gimbel of Ree
Heights, Bryan (Raquel) Jarabek of Arlington, Va., Eric and Kim Jarabek of Fargo, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha on January 2, 1991; his parents; a brother,
George; and a sister, Emma.
