Sarah Gogolin, 83, of Arthur, N.D., died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Eventide Lutheran
Home in Moorhead, Minnesota.
The funeral was held March 31 at St. John Lutheran Church in Arthur, with the Rev.
Marvin Hartmann and the Rev. Eugene Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Arthur
Sarah Mary Lako was born June 30, 1920, in Wessington, S.D. She grew up in the
Wessington area and attended school in Bonilla. She moved to North Dakota with her
family and settled near Arthur.
She married Martinus F. Gogolin on February 14, 1942 (Valentine's Day). They farmed
near Arthur until 1984, when they retired and moved into Arthur. Tinus died August 23,
1994. Later that year, she moved to Casselwood in Casselton, N.D. She also resided at
the Evergreens in Fargo and then Moorhead. She eventually made her home at
She was an active member of the Rose Valley Homemakers Club. She served faithfully
for many years as the organist of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies
Aid and ALCW.
Sarah is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Fred) Hoppert of Milwaukee, Wis., and
Jane Jalbert of Fargo, N.D.; a son, James (Patti) Gogolin of Brainerd, Minn.; 10
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, her husband and a grandson.
