Mary Jo Froning, 51, of Miller, S.D., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Feb.
6, 2004. She was a resident at Prairie Good Samaritan Center, Miller, at the time of her
death.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at St. Liborius Catholic Church in
Polo with Father John Helmueller as celebrant. A committal service followed at Mt.
Calvary Cemetery, Polo. Reck Funeral Home, Miller, was in charge of arrangements.
Casketbearers were Amber, Nicholas and Jonathan Froning, Chris Grieshaber, Jim
McGillvrey and Jerome Schaefers. Honorary casketbearers were the Catholic
Daughters.

Mary Jo Froning was born May 16, 1952 in Miller to Emil and Charlotte (Gleason)
Froning. She attended St. Liborius Elementary School and graduated from high school
at Harmony Hill in Watertown in 1970.

She attended Presentation College in Aberdeen for a year and obtained a degree in
early childhood development from Watertown Vocational Technical Institute in 1975. In
1977, she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Watertown Vocational
School.

She was employed at Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller for ten years. She also
worked at the Faulkton Healthcare Center for ten years until her declining health forced
her to retire from her nursing practice in October of 2001.

She was active in the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Liborius Church in Polo
and the Catholic Daughters. She taught the First Communicants at St. Liborius for many
years.

She loved living on the farm and took special pride in the yard work. Caring for the farm
animals, especially her cats, was important in her life. She enjoyed the horses on the
farm and helped raise thousands of pheasants for the hunters who would come to the
farm from different areas of the nation.

Survivors include her mother, Charlotte Schaefers of Miller; two brothers, Tom Froning of
Fargo, N.D. and Richard Schaefers of Miller; a sister, Kimberly Schaefers of Miller; a
niece, Amber Froning; two nephews, Nicholas and Jonathan Froning; a sister-in-law,
Nancy G. Froning; and numerous loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Emil Froning in 1955; her step-father,
Ambrose Schaefers in 1977; a brother, Dave Froning in 2001; and her paternal and
maternal grandparents.
