Lillian R. Froning, 92, of Redfield, formerly of Miller, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at
Beverly Healthcare Center in Redfield.
The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 13 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield, with
Fr. William Osborn officiating. Burial was in St. Ann's Cemetery, Miller.
Lillian Hermanson was born April 18, 1911, in Wisconsin to Oscar and Hanna
Hermanson. She grew up in the Frankfort area and graduated from Frankfort High
School. In 1930, she attended nursing school in Chamberlain.
Lillian married Norbert Hagan on November 24, 1935. They farmed in the Redfield area
and Lillian worked at Community Memorial Hospital until they moved to Keystone in
1946. After Norbert's death in 1953, she moved back to Redfield and worked as a nurse at the hospital and at the South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield, until she retired in 1976.
She married Clarence Froning on September 21, 1978 in Polo. They farmed together
before moving to Miller. Clarence died in May of 2003 and Lillian moved to Beverly
Lillian enjoyed dancing, playing cards, doing puzzles and cooking, and she was always
happy to spend time with her family and friends. She was also a Foster Grandparent.
Lillian is survived by two children, Kay (Don) Hubbard of Effie, Minn., and Greg (Donna)
Hagan of Redfield; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and many
step-nieces and step-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.
