Doris Marie Freese, 85, formerly of Albany, Ore., and a resident of Timberhill Place in
Corvallis, Ore., died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, after a short stay at The Corvallis Manor
nursing facility.

Memorial services were held Saturday, July 10 at AAsum Funeral Home in Albany, Ore.

Doris was born September 10, 1918, to Albert LeRoy and Florence M. (Lakey) Hiatt at
Miller, South Dakota. After graduating from Miller High School in 1936 she worked at the county extension office in Brookings. In the fall of 1937 she moved to Albany. Ore. with her brother, Earl Jack Hiatt and his wife, who already resided there.

Doris was employed by F.W. Woolworth, Montgomery Ward, Grocerveteria, and by
Borden Milk Company.

On July 11, 1945, she married Eugene Wade Freese in Vancouver, Wash. and they lived for many years at their Albany farm on Palestine Road.

Doris loved the outdoors and fishing. She and her husband enjoyed all forms of wildlife
and nature. Doris and Gene contributed monies to the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation that helped feed the deer, elk, birds, and other hungry wildlife affected by the
winter storms of 1983. They also contributed through the same organization to the
building of a fish watch platform at Camp Sherman on the Metolious River that was
dedicated in September of 1984.

She and Gene also loved feeding birds together, and she loved her German shepherd
dog, Hauntz. She was an active member of the Palestine Willing Workers Club.

After her husband's death in 1998, Doris remained in Albany until 2001 when she sold
her farm and moved to Corvallis.

She is survived by her twin brother, Chester L. Hiatt of Lake Oswego, Ore.; youngest
sister Maxine Elliott of Vancouver, Wash.; and by two nephews and their families.
In addition to her husband, Gene, she was preceded in death by her sister Beryl Hiatt
and brother Jack Hiatt.
