Edwin F. Fechner, 89, of Miller, S.D., died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at Prairie Good
Samaritan Center in Miller.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller
with the Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. Burial was in G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller.
Casketbearers were Brett, Koby, Chad and Adam Fechner, Tom Wiand and Kory
Bowar. Reck Funeral Home, Miller, was in charge of arrangements.
Edwin Fred Fechner was born May 12, 1914, to Fred and Elizabeth Fechner at
He married Luella Max of Harrold on June 15, 1937 in Highmore. They farmed in Holden
Township, Hand County until 1963 at which time they moved to Miller. He worked for
Midwest Supply and Donlin Building.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Luella, of 66 years; five sons, Lauren (Cheryl) Fechner of
Andover, Minn., Dennis (Bridgette) Fechner of Sioux Falls, Jerry (Karla) Fechner of
Egan, Minn., Jim (Jo) Fechner of Anoka, Minn., and Chuck (Nancy) Fechner of Sioux
Falls; a son-in-law, Roger Engelcke of Miller; three daughters, Carolyn (Dutch) Wiand of
Spirit Lake, Iowa, Deb (Dan) Bowar of Faulkton and Peggy (Rich) Nickerson of Pierre;
many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther (Ted) Biernet of
Minneapolis, Minn., and Hulda Hoff of Sioux Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, LaVonne Englecke; an infant son,
Ricky; a brother and three sisters.
