Francis K. Evans, 83, of Miller, S.D., died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Hand County
A memorial service was held Monday, May 24 at 10 a.m. at Reck Funeral Home in Miller
with Rev. Nels Easterby officiating.
Francis K. Evans was born near St. Lawrence, S.D., to Bert and Precious (Almond)
Evans on September 23, 1920. He received his grade school education at Hiland
Center. He went to St. Lawrence High School before moving with his family to California
and graduating from Norwalk California High School in 1938.
He entered the military in November of 1942 and served with the 7th Armored Division in the European Theater, receiving a purple heart for his duties there. Following the service, he moved to Marysville, Washington.
He married Olive Smith May 16, 1952. They lived in several states where he worked as
a lathe machine operator. They returned to Marysville to retire.
In August 2003, he returned to South Dakota and was a resident at the Miller Plaza.
Survivors include a sister, Gladys Jensen Reynolds of St. Lawrence; a brother, John
Evans of Custer; two sisters-in-law, Lurabel Evans of Miller and Joanne Evans of
Spokane, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Olive; a sister, Cecile Boulais; and
two brothers, Albert and Eugene Evans.
