Lyle W. Droppers, 76, of Miller, S.D., died Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Hand County
Memorial Hospital in Miller after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United
Methodist Church in Miller with the Rev. David Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller.

Casketbearers will be Bob Labor, Merle Jenner, Craig Sisk, Ed Christopherson,
Peanuts Rawstern and Don Chastain.

Reck Funeral Home, Miller, is in charge of arrangements.

Lyle Winston Droppers was born December 25, 1927 in Hand County to Henry and
Hattie (Lightenberg) Droppers.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Merley Johnson in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, on April 2, 1980. They loved traveling and the outdoors. Many hours were spent hunting and fishing.

He lived in Miller and worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation for 40
years until he retired in 1988.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Miller where he enjoyed
singing in the choir, and was a member of the Miller Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Merley of Miller; two sons, Lyle Robert (Linda) Droppers of
Sturgis, and Monte Gene Droppers of Sturgis; four daughters, Lila Rae (Larry) Wallace
of Sturgis, Sandra Kay (Daniel) Hayes of Rapid City, Arlene Marie (Bill) Brown of
Faulkton, and Luetta Dawn (Richard) Staley of Belle Fourche; two step-sons, Perry
Johnson of Gillette, Wyo., and Gary (Lynn) Johnson of Columbia Heights, Minn.; a
step-daughter, Carol (Thomas) Winsell of Miller; 22 grandchildren, 27
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin (Jean) Droppers of Miller, and Calvin (June)
Droppers of Rapid City; a sister, Mona Sue (Dayton) Dierkson of St. Lawrence; and a
sister-in-law, Lois Droppers of Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Morris Droppers; and a sister,
Evelyn Laity.
