Dorothy E. Dixon, 82, of Chamberlain, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Avera McKennan
Hospital in Sioux Falls.
The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 13 at Wevik Funeral Home in Chamberlain. Burial was
in the Pukwana Cemetery.
Dorothy E. Hancock was born January 7, 1922, at Miller to Maurice and Beulah (Parson)
Hancock. She attended grade school in Okobogo, S.D., until 1936, when the family
moved back to Miller. There Dorothy attended and graduated from high school in 1940.
She attended college at Wessington Springs and went on to teach in Hand County.
On June 18, 1943, she was married to Milo "Bud" Dixon at Pierre. To this union 11
children were born. Bud and Dorothy made their home in the Miller area until they moved
to Riverside, Calif. in 1946. They returned to Miller in 1948. In 1952 they moved to
Pukwana, where they made their home until Bud became ill in 1989. They moved to
Chamberlain, where she resided until the time of her death.
She is survived by her children, Roy (Sandi) Grout of Rapid City, Sheilah (Ken) Hall of
Black Hawk, Carol (Gerald) McCullar of Washington, Ill., Marvin (Joan) Dixon of Tyndall,
Virginia Hansen of Tyndall, Tanya Fischer of Sioux Falls, John Dixon of Mt. Vernon,
Sharon (Gaylord) Cheney of Rapid City, David (Amy) Dixon of River Falls, Wis., Beccie
(Francis) Drew of Chamberlain, and Bobbie (Gene) Bryant of Granbury, Texas; 41
grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud; one son, Glen; two
brothers, Howard and Lowell; and two sisters, Marion Furman and Alice Fratzke.
