Agnes Mary Costello, 92, of Milbank and formerly of Wessington Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at the Milbank Area Hospital-Avera Health.

Funeral services were held November 19 at United Church of Christ in Wessington Springs, with the Rev. Don Grubb officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Agnes Mary Bill was born January 5, 1912, in Bates Township, Hand County, to John and Clara (Muehleisen) Bill. At the age of two she moved to Wessington Springs with her family after a fire destroyed the family farm. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1933. She attended one year of normal school at Wessington Springs Junior College and taught at rural schools.

She married Ralph Readle Costello on March 7, 1936. He died in 1949. She earned a two-year teaching certificate from Wessington Springs Junior College. In 1961, she began a 20-year career as the Jerauld County Clerk of Courts.

She was a longtime member of United Church of Christ of Wessington Springs. She was a Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Women's Circle. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America.

She enjoyed gardening, traveling with family members and attending all kinds of events in which her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated.

She is survived by four daughters, Mary (Mike) Nitz of Milbank, Dorothy (Frank) Ames of Brooklyn Center, Minn., LaVonne Costello of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Connie Costello of Huron; two sons, Lloyd Costello of Brandon and Gene (Joan) Costello of Sioux Falls. 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Maynard Bill of Anaheim, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James "Jim" Costello; a stepson, Richard "Dick" Costello; a sister; three brothers; and an infant brother.
