Audrey Clarke, 57, of Pierre, died Friday, April 2, 2004, in Pierre.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 6, at Lutheran Memorial Church in Pierre. Interment was at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.
Audrey Ohlson was born June 21, 1946, at Rapid City to Kenneth and Blanche (Moore)
Ohlson. She attended school in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City Central High
School in 1946.
She attended Northern State College and graduated with a BS in elementary education in 1968. She received her Master's degree in education at the University of Wyoming in 1972 and her principal's certificate from South Dakota State University. Audrey also held an Advanced Professional Teacher's Certificate.
She taught school in Hill City; St. Michael/Albertville, Minn.; Kadoka (Long Valley and Kadoka attendance centers); Sioux Valley Schools; Volga; Park River, N.D.; and Pierre.
She was united in marriage with Dennis Clarke in Rapid City on January 28, 1967.
Audrey was a member of South Dakota Jaycettes (Women of Today), where she served
as State Internal V.P., District V.P. and State Secretary. She was a member of Beta
Sigma Phi for 34 years, and she started chapters in Kadoka and Volga, and was
currently a member in Pierre and served as Preceptor Theta. She was also a member of
Phi Delta Kappa Professional Fraternity of Education, Delta Kappa Gamma Society
International, and Honored Women Educators of South Dakota.
Audrey served as First Lady of South Dakota Elks Association during her husband's presidency. She held a real estate license, was an accomplished pianist, and was a 14-year cancer survivor.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Pierre; one daughter, Andrea of Pierre;
one grandson, Jaret of Pierre; and one brother, Ronald Ohlson of Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and one daughter, Elizabeth.
Memorials may be directed to Children Care Hospital and School, Sioux Falls, or
Children's Home Society, Sioux Falls.
