Evelyn M. Chalcraft, 75, of Huron and formerly of Wessington, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at the Sioux Valley Hospice Cottage at Sioux Falls.
Her funeral service was held Thursday, Aug. 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with the Rev. Kevin Channell officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Evelyn was born Evelyn Meta Stobbs on June 19, 1929, to Guy Allan and Ada Ruth (Sass) Stobbs in Hand County near Vayland, S.D. She attended school in Wessington and graduated from Wessington High School.
On September 24, 1948, Evelyn married Donald R. Chalcraft at Huron. The couple lived at Groton, S.D. for 27-1/2 years before returning to Wessington in 1978. Her husband, Donald, died on June 8, 1996. Evelyn moved to Huron in May of 1997.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Watson-Krauter American Legion Post #110 Auxiliary of Wessington and the Royal Neighbors. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by one daughter, Vickie (Richard) Schumacher of Crooks, S.D.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Peterson of Huron, Nellie (Gilbert) Scheibe of Wolsey, and Blanche McNeil of Huron; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; one son, Dennis; one daughter, Denise Jensen; two brothers, John A. Stobbs, and William Stobbs; two sisters, Dollie Scheibe, and an infant sister, Viola.
