Francis "Buster" Brewer, 82, and his wife, Madeline (Deuter) Brewer, 83, of Escondido, Calif., passed away after suffering strokes within several days of each other, while enroute home to California after visiting son Steve and family in Arkansas.

Madeline Mabell Deuter was born June 27, 1921 *, the daughter of Howard and Anna (Eilts) Deuter. She attended LaFoon Grade School and graduated from Faulkton High School in 1940.

She married Francis Brewer in May of 1942. She attended Northern State College for one year. In 1964, they moved to Freemont, Calif., where she finished college at Freemont University. She taught grade school for several years and then taught adult art classes until she retired because of her health.

In addition to her two sons, Steve and family of Arkansas and Ron and family of California, she is survived by two sisters, Gardena "Dene" Anderson and family of Clark, S.D., and Catherine Bottelman and family of Winter Park, Fla., and one grandson and one granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marion; and one brother, Bill.

Francis Lloyd Brewer was born November 16, 1921, at Coal Springs, S.D., to Joseph Andrew and Janet Brewer. The family moved near Faulkton in 1925.

Francis, also known as Buster or Buz, graduated from LaFoon Grade School and from Faulkton High School in 1940. Francis served in the military during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific, as a combat engineer, taking part in the invasion of Luzon in the Philippines. After military service he attended and graduated from Northern State College. He taught at Monroe Junior High School in Aberdeen until 1964.

He and his family moved to Freemont, Calif., and he taught school there until retirement. They then moved to Escondido, Calif.

In addition to two sons, Steve and Ron, and their families, Francis is survived by three brothers, Leo of Opelika, Ala., Timon of Caldwell, Idaho, and Donald of Faulkton; one grandson and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
