Dr. John J. O'Brien House, 1232 Sutter Avenue,
Wellston, St. Louis County, MO
Photographer Theodore LaVack
September dated 1936
From The Library of Congress
Historic American Buildings Survey/Historic American Engineering Record
advertisements in 1887, indicate the house was built new in
1886-1887. There would have been no slave labor at that
time. Dr. O'Brien was born 1845 Ireland, was not a slave owner.
Time and better information, indicate that the references to the
house having been "built
in the year 1819 and by slave labor " , are inaccurate. Bob Haefner
