Pocahontas
is located in the northeastern part of the county, about five miles north of

it was established in the mid 1850s, and was a settlement of
Austrian-Lutherans. Today, much of the culture unique to the Austrian and
German Lutherans is gone. The "old German" language is spoken to this
day by some of the older generation, but the majority of the present population
has not carried on the language and cultural aspects.
