    History & Achievements :
John Wright arrived in Australia as part of the 50th Regiment's contingent in 1833. Following a time in Sydney with this Regiment. he was sent to Hobart with a company of the 50th,arriving in Hobart Town 1835. Following his discharge from the Army, John relocated himself to Victoria where he met and married his second wife Eliza. Together they settled firstly at Goulburn and then in Geelong. The following land purchases have been attributed to John.
1844-48 Bourke County, 1846-47 Wild Duck Creek near Heacoate, 1848-53 Balkam Hill near Yea with
Edward C Bishop, 1850 Westernport area 17,000 acres with Edward C Bishop, 1853 Merlin Hill Crown Allotment7 sect 3, 1860 Merlin Hill Crown Allotment 6 sect 3,
Along with his friend Alfred Douglas they formed a partnership in a wool scouring buisness on the
breakwater of the Barwon River. With in the Douglas family there appears to be some discontent, as following the death of John Wright all his property was willed to the Douglas family. John's widow Eliza was allowed to remain of on the property at Merlin Hill, following her death, this property was passed onto the son of Alferd Douglas.

The Obituary of John Wright . " Geelong Advertiser"

Obituary John Wright July 28 1868

Eliza Wright & John Wright owned land in Russell Street Melbourne, bought for 624 pounds and sold after John Wright's death for 4,000 pounds. This sale occurred after John Wright's death in 1866 and appears to have been supervised by the Alfred Doughlas Family. (the Douglas family lived in Corio Villa in Geelong - we saw the house -a pre fabricated metal building).John Wright left money to the Catholic Church in Geelong ( Where he is buried)
